Mikey, 06 Aug 2019Prior to using the S8 active... I would have agreed the but... moreBigger screen in the wild is not a big deal. and dirt in the wild is normal.
if you dont use it in the wild then dont get an active phone. it is bad choice to just get it for drops. get a shock case and a normal phone.

Plus it was one less place for dirt and crud to get hung up.

dissapointed, 31 Jul 2019Samsung Why physical buttons, why ?
It's going backward f... moreBecause Physical Buttons are a MUST for Rugged phones . it was a mistake they removed them.
you need to understand that rugged phones are used in the forest and while doing sport and physical buttons allows you to use the phone without looking at the screen while your other hand is busy.

Well it seems you did not heard about the old LG V10, which looks good, and it has a big screen, nor about Fujitsu smart phones, which are also shock resistant and also water resistant. :)

CS, 31 Jul 2019Sucks it will be locked into AT&T and wont get a global... moreProbably because AT&T told Samsung they wanted a ruggedized version of the S series for their U.S. customers. I'm just glad that I have access to it here in the states.

The design is insignificant when it comes to rugged smartphones, the Galaxy Active is officially on my radar because of its small 5.2" screen and large 4500mAh battery, it's the perfect phone to travel with. I expect very good battery performance and it better deliver.

This is perfect. For all those complaining about bezels and buttons, this isn't for them and they have the entire smartphone industry to choose from. This is a phone I'd buy if it were available to me. The only thing I don't like is the position of the fingerprint scanner. They could have integrated it with the home button in front. Nevertheless, you can't have everything.

GAMIRSFM, 31 Jul 2019For many people complainig about the design looking ugly an... moreI have owned the entire Active series of phones, except the S7 variant along with the Rugby Smart and Pro over the years.
I was the target market for this phone, and completely understand and appreciate the bezels.
BUT... a 5.2" screen? Physical buttons on the front of the phone with a poorly placed finger print reader on the back? The screw to hold the back cover on? Do we have flaps for the covers again? It's like the greatest complaints of the their rugged phones all merged into one phone. If they wanted to do an S9 Active they should have evolved the S8 Active, just like they did the standard S8 into the S9.

WTF is that??????
Seriously the design of the S8 active was very good. It was balanced between the regular phone and a brick.
They've gone to "brick" and stuck old hardware in it.
Thank god I'm done with that company.

This looks like the successor to the Samsung S8 Active... like a Samsung S9 Active.
It's possible it is that phone, and was cancelled by AT&T, probably due to low sales. That is a good thing. I want Samsung to make these phones, but don't make it exclusive to only USA/AT&T. There's a strong appeal for these phones, for having better durability and battery life than the regular lame flagships.
Plus they feel good in the hand and pocket, without the need for any protective case.
