Samsung Mid - range smartphones are for garbage, not big battery, no image stabilizer, terrible fingerprint sensor under the screen and overpriced is natural nobody buys this crap. As for flagships Are overpriced, no good battery and not good cameras.

Smartphone sinking to commodity levels like laptops.

Do you see people buying new laptops every 6 months or 2 years?

More and more the prices of their mobiles, lesser will be the sales, revenue and hence lesser profits, what's is good for the goose is good for the gander!! Apple story will be replicated...

The people is just realising that for a a 3 year lifespan smartphone (or for expensive casual repairs)is not worth the money to choosing the premium models. You can save up to 500usd/€ for a plastic frame version, or metal frame Chinese model that does almost the same. Of course there will be always people who wants distinction and will pay the extra because they can or because they pretend they can afford it.
