Anonymous, 03 Aug 2019waiting for a phone that's got 100 cameras Wide, Periscope, Ultra Wide Angle, ToF and BW is all we need, I don't see why a phone would need more than 5 cameras...

Or it could be a new Light module with 4x64mp. :)

This is like the Nokia pureview, but hopefully for video too. But they have been talking about doing higher resolutions by overlapping lower resolution sensors. I think Nokia is claiming they could do over 200mp. It's a bit dodgy to me, but the numbers add up. Maybe it is 4 16mp sensors.

Guys, the issue is, 48mp has been largely misused, and ultra low light and better HDR are not included. They use it on cheap phones instead of a 12mp sensor. With proper low light and HDR technologies, things would be much better.

This thing of binning 4 pixels of the same color may help low light etc, but I say if they downscale the pixels in normal light based on on the corners to get different colors, the 4k pictures would likely be better compared to the other way (and you could even make a binning mode that acts like that). The other way is like an old 1.6micron pixel sensor before recent improvements.

Damn!! Like 48 MP aren't enough!!
Hats off for Xiaomi

mehtasameer2087, 02 Aug 2019And if there was so major drastic image quality heightened ... moreYou know why? It's because the money is not on DSLR, investments for improvement is low. Than compare to cellular phone a multi-billion dollar sales per year.

64Mp rear
48Mp front

IpsDisplay, 02 Aug 2019Can you provide any substantial points as to why the indivi... moreAnd if there was so major drastic image quality heightened by use of the current 48mp sensor then they woul shave beaten the pixel phones and other flagships hands down but they don't,and even beat the DSLR

IpsDisplay, 02 Aug 2019Can you provide any substantial points as to why the indivi... moreFor more detail Google it you will get tons of information on why bigger pixel size is better

IpsDisplay, 02 Aug 2019Can you provide any substantial points as to why the indivi... moreLight gathering, individual large pixels means better light capture , individual small pixel means mess light and all the pixels need to light up properly to gain maximum output because of binning tech, the smaller the pixel the less light it gather and is dependent on binning tech, something similar to what Samsung 48mp sensor does by not capturing native 48mp and interpolating by software and what Sony does by providing more number of pixels in less same area of sensor ,point is large pixels on a small sensor will still produce better results than small pixels on the bigger sensor size.if this would have been 1.6 microns pixel size on 1/2 sensor the image quality would have been drastically different

They already used a bunch of marketing tricks before to hide the mediocre phones that they release. So i don't expect anything better now.

But there is something good... if this cheap bricks will have new sensors. That means that soon a better ones from Redmi/Xiaomi, Huawei, etc, will arrive too.

Sony will presente sensors 81MP 1/1.5" and 108MP 1/1.2" .. Probably both Quadbayer.

I have no idea if this will be available for any brand interested or if it is for their own phones.

GaneshV, 02 Aug 2019Sounds like depth SENSOR not camera.....😳......TOF ?Depth sensor is a camera. You can take images using it

mehtasameer2087, 02 Aug 2019Again same marketing junk ,less per pixel size more mp ,use... moreCan you provide any substantial points as to why the individual pixel sizes are smaller it is inherently bad or that binning is objectively useless??

Please elaborate on the context of sensor size , computation, lens Architecture and how it impacts other factors like pixel size and binning

Rsg, 02 Aug 2019This is their camera showcase event, not a phone launch eve... moreXiaomi fan here miui is running nice and smooth even on my old barely alive redmi note 4x

adding one camera per year.. how interesting.... wake me up when they do ten
