You use Symbian OS as an example of "usability" however symbian os is one of the hardest OS to navigate. Not only that but you then use the "OVERALL" mobile market. Nokia barely moves any Symbian devices now, S40 is not symbian so no, old people do not prefer Symbian OS.

I'm sure this will be a very reliable phone, more reliable than any of android phones nowadays. I have had many Panasonic products, including phones and all of them were extremely reliable. Welcome to Europe Panasonic !

well this looks good. the full specs are on the panasonic uk website. but one thing it dont show flash on the camera. this would a suicidal effort. the phone looks good. top brand and awesome os, but seriously no flash big flop.
i just hope they sort it go go panasonic.

Do not see things from your own prism.
Even ovens are not equal in usability. My oven is dull, but I need only on button and one rotary knob to launch the program, other oven requires two buttons and minus/plus additional pushes and it's tiresome. WP7 is visually simplistic on purpose, to stay task oriented. I can understand people asking for some kind of folders. But what is troublesome with tiles? They combine shortcuts and notifications on a discrete area, that is the most valuable UI innovation of our era. It's not as fancy as animated widgets, but as the OS level could allow very clever messaging infrastructure. And it is easy to explain.
Those who dismiss WindowsPhone7 reminds me of those dismissing automatic transmission. With maturity you will come to realize that there is no argument. Technologies are not invalidated on their merits, but on their usability, the market is seldom wrong. That is why 3D TV is going nowhere and we should never forget that Betamax was the best, evar !!!
But one must realize also that mobile telephony is biased like the banking networks. That is why US never saw the light of smartcard (ubiquitous in Europe and Asia), and WP7, like Symbian before, is at the mercy of operators.

Oh for gods sake its just another boring slab,,what difference is there in the smartphones of today..Its just a screen and thats it ,boring souless slab yet again,,seems the Japs have lost their designers too.
Boring,Boring,Boring nothing to look at piece og screen..Absolutue boring the backside off me is the smartphone since 2009...Where are all the gadgety buttoned clamshell fones???
I know where its becsuse it because the manufacturers dont have to pay for designers and it saves money,,all they do is buy a screen and add google free software and bingo sell it to the morons who will buy a fone thats as miserable to look at as death.

There are a few people in the 40+ age bracket that can still cope up with technology. Luckily for you your dad is one of them. But most people out there in their 40s prefer simple OSes like Symbian and the old native OSes of the other manufacturers. That's why the aging giant Nokia still controls a large portion of the overall mobile phone market.
Note: Please notice that I used overall mobile phone market since everybody knows Nokia is struggling in the smartphone dept.

Something is not right with the picture on the right. The buttons should not be visible when the phone is in that position, as they are on the left side when looking to the front of the camera.

Tiles?... the menu system on wp7 is more confusing than android. My dad is 56, he uses a G2x using LG's official gingerbread that is as stock as you can get without going Nexus. He seems to navigate the menu perfectly fine, he watches foxsoccer from his phone, can send emails, and make and take calls. I don't know how hard it is to recognize the icon that looks like a telephone to be the button that you press before making calls... Maybe its like Steve Balmer says, Android is for rocket scientist while WP7 is for the everyday idiot?

My own mother however will argue that using her purple HTC running Gingerbread and sense 3.5 is easier than IOS but then every one of the 3 OSs has thier weakness and strength. As for this phone and the future direction of phones, Im liking what I see.

The Eluga is only has a 1Ghz dual core CPU, but knowing Panasonic it be around £400 when it hits these shores in Spring.

Time and again, successfull devices has shown that price is not the issue. The appeal, the aura are, and primary the usability. Starting with Android is a handicap, as its stock incarnation is not suitable to most 40+ (they won't adapt themselves, they will go to WP7 and iOS ASAP). This Panasonic is a beautiful object, and looks like a luxury item closer to LG Prada than Galaxy Nexus. It has unique features but still Gingerbread buttons (I like buttons, most sane people do). With a great interface and operators support it will be well received by real people, the one not glued to tech blogs on the internet bashing Ghz and SD cards. Flashness is puzzling.
