Almost every movie going to cinema is in 21/9 and have top and bottom black bar on 16/9 TV. Only series are 16/9. Then there is all the whining about bezel, and then you say it's cool to have top and bottom black bars on movies, well, it's hard to follow.
Anyway, it's nice to have a phone that make movie in 21/9 that I can see in fullscreen on my 21/9 monitor I have for more than 3 years now to enjoy movies without big top and bottom bezels and larger field of view in videogame, did I talk about multitasking?

The project i... moreAgree with you completely. I love this concept .Sony gets to market it's phones in a meaningful way ,the winner of the contest gets money and recognition and the other participating students get exposure in video capture and filmmaking .It's a win - win for everybody involved.
This is a breath of fresh air in smartphone marketing compared to the usual useless advertising employed by well known brands. Hope the trend catches on amongst other smartphone manufacturers.

Does it matter if it's not a good marketing?
The project is aiming to help, and not about bragging the phone's capabilities.
Not only does it help teach students to be filmmakers (those who are aspiring to be in the future), it also does it for FREE.
Imagine an underrated big company lending their own $1000 products to be borrowed by other unknown people in order to have their project be successful.
Not even a multi-billion dollar fruit company would lend their $750 phone to be borrowed by a trusted person....

I think it's good marketing, to make students know that Xperia 1 has great capabilities to do cinematography and (short) film-making on a smartphone just like this, and this recognition could grow larger to other aspects. Sure, not Samsung-level marketing, but hey, it's a step up from the previous iteration of Sony Mobile marketing. Besides, Sony Mobile at least now one umbrella with its Camera division and TV division.

There is a rumor that the copper colour might come back.
It was used by E3, M2 , Z3 and Z4/Z3+ .
