What Apple did with their chipset is quite amazing. A12 will soon be 1 year old and nothing can touch it even now. iOS helps a bit, but a lot of benchmarks are pure compute which isn't really all that OS dependent.

Can't even beat the current A12/iPhone XS and Exynos/Galaxy S10 chipsets in the arguably more important single core performance. Wouldn't be bragging about that myself.

I'd say having more than 8 GB of RAM on a smartphones doesn't have real benefits, but it's still future proof at least.

The Kirin 980 and SD 855 are both on 7nm fab and use ARM Cortex-A76 and A55 cores, I don't see why you're comparing the SD 845 to the Kirin 980 when the SD 845 is on 10nm fab and use Cortex-A75.

Snapdragon 820 is good enough. Only problem is lack of RAM starts to become an issue. I got a Nexus 4 which had the S4 Pro and it's actually quite usable for a 7-year-old device. It's only bottleneck seems to be the 2 GB of RAM.
My Pixel 3 with Snapdragon 845 is faster than my LG G5 with 820 opening up apps but my G5 can keep more apps in the background open without refreshing. That's why I'm not feeling it with the smaller Pixel 4 with only 6 GB RAM and smaller battery. It should be 8-12 GB already.

I heard 16 core / 32 theard cheap as dirt now (or 64 core / 128 thread if you got some tinfoil hat on you), add suitable Cuda accelerator, install Adobe or something. Get Mac version if you must (ecosystem / plug & play / etc), most likely paying over 400% mark up tho.

Which is slower than my s8...I also checked on my gf's pixel xl.. Which is downright horrible. My phone has exynos chip in it. I hqv an ipad pro 2018 11inch.. It is like 8 times faster in the same app.. A 2 min 4k video rendering takes 34 mins approx on s8 plus.. Ipad pro takes around 4:30 to 5 mins
