21 February, 2012

Anonymous, 21 Feb 2012I just love how people praise the S II and say how awesome ... morethat is ridiculous... s2 was choppy cause the hd games from tegra zone is hundred percent only for tegra crappy processors. and chainfire is still beta..all in all..samsung s2 has the most craziest cpu in android. and i dont have an s2. i have an optimus 2x and remorse why i bought this phone..absolutely pathetic.crap on earth..lags and low memory problems etc etc...i wanna sell it and get another phone..waiting for the one x and s3.. the monsters of tomorrow

I'm really intrigued why there is no CPU benchmarks with apple devices only gpu? i mean clearly 4S/ipad2 has better gpu but also cpu is the most important part to determine the performance of a device such as browser, general usability, smooth multi tasking... gpu are essential to games (unless apps use gpu for general purpose)

For my sake they can use the same chipset in SIII, only higher clocked and on a qHD or 720 screen.

Dont under estimate the Exynos, as it is the Mali GPU in both GS2 and GNote is underclocked yet still gives Qualcomm, NVidia and TI's latest a run for their money.

Qualcomm processors are pretty good, but what I'm worried about is their GPU......it falls short when compared to the likes of PowerVR or Mali and if the next gen Mali GPU is said to be 4 times more powerful.

Qualcomm really needs to step up their GPU performance.

AnonD-3367, 21 Feb 2012Sounds like someone is having buyer's remorse, tut. Galaxy... moreBoth yes and no. The SII can run games HD games, only not in HD. 800x480 may have been considered as HD on cellphones in 2008, but not anymore.

The SII's display resolution is the lowest of all high end devices. Others run either qHD or 720. Therefore it should be very easy for SII to run HD games, as it runs them at a lower resolution than others. Only problem is that you don't get to enjoy it at full detail.

It's GPU is very good, only it doesn't really matter.

Either way, impressive to see what Qualcomm has been able to pull out av two cores, but how about power usage?

In general, for 720 screens, we need much better GPU's then what we have available today.

Most of the top end GPU's today provide just about the same output on 720 displays, as the SGX540 (@304MHz)/Tegra 2 does on qHD displays. It works quite good on both, but if they really want to strech the details and run native games in 720 resolution, GPU's need to improve.

Thats fine but the question is do we really need so fast processors like Quad Core etc in mobiles? What are the mobiles apps that need so much processing power? I guess they are wasting time in coming out with more and more cores on the processors rather they should try enhancing the camera and other hardware aspects of mobile which would make mobile usage and the entertainment world on the mobile even more exciting.

I'm surprised to see how the new Tegra3 falls behind the SGX543MP... a little disappointed too as the newest GPU from the top and famous Nvidia still lost to the 1 year old GPU from PowerVR

Of course they aren't that much nowadays, to be honest, they stopped making PC videocards because they were lagging behind the others and sales fell...

But in mobile videochips, they are good, realy good.

From Qualcomm, it was expected for me.
