If a phone company will develop their own UI, does it mean your device will keep on having software updates for 3-5 years?

galaxyS15, 13 Aug 2019Why would they call it their own OS?. Calling a android OS ... moreOS is like a basement of a house or a chassis of a car.
Skin is like a walls or a car body.

Customer, 14 Aug 2019And this is what stupid thrump gets by banning huaweii from... moreYou are misunderstanding this news. probably because of the misleading title and Huawei with its Harmony OS. This is just Realme departuring from ColourOS and using their own OS. What they mean by OS is more like the skin or UI. Its still Android. Its just skinned with a launcher with some features added in like what MIUI, OxygenOS, LineageOS or RemixOS does.

YUKI93, 14 Aug 2019Just because OEM using their own UI doesn't mean that they ... moreTotally agree this is UI and Realme should know better.
Huawei statements that it has a Operating System is true, the misleading part is that it has not been developed for use in mobile phones apparently only TV so far.
Using your own OS allows you develop features you want to incorporate in your own range of future releases (e.g Nokia and Symbian essentially the brilliant for keypad phones, Symbian is way to "complex" for Touchscreen! Hence Nokias move to Windows.
Huawei has stated that it will develop Harmony for a future mid range phones
This lack of commitment I.e a flagship us better, if the phone doesn't set the world alight Huawei could walk away
Third party app developers make apps that follow the phone, a flagship phone indicates that Huawei is serious, URL can be pinned to homepage, e.g. Facebook instead of pre installed, pinned
The benefits for Huawei is that it doesn't pay Google for having Android installed on its phones, indeed other phone makers could opt to use Harmony, App developers follow phones and a duplicate Harmony app is created
A new Operating System simply cannot be created as more than likely not Patents for processes would have to be paid
Apple did created IOS however it uses critical processes which are owned by Nokia
IOS is a licensed Nokia software, so every single device that runs IOS, Apple pays Nokia a licensing fee. Every single IOS device indeed gsmarena has an article on the last $Billions Apple paid Nokia
My gripe is this Android mirrors IOS, IOS mirrors Android
The best OS by far is Blackberry 10, essentially the Blackberry App Store officially closes at the end of this year 12/31/2019, the phone OS is not developed.
https://blackberry.qnx.com/en
The Blackberry 10/QNX has been developed for use in driverless cars.
The monthly security patches that Google trot out simply would not be needed
If...If Blackberry had opened up Blackberry 10/QNX to all Android users as stated before Apps follow phones, I don't know if this would mean any Blackberry devices, there would be phones using this OS, I doubt that Harmony OS is as secure.
ALL Blackberry 10 devices do not need the security patches, there has been no security updates in over 2 years and no malware infection
We are down to two Operating Systems one of which doesn't even use memory expansion, Bluetooth or Wi-fi..
Huawei gave me hope, then they stole Christmas.

And this is what stupid thrump gets by banning huaweii from the market! Every single Chinese brand will have its own Android based Operation system. At the end they will get a single one for the while Asia market and then Android will die!

Just because OEM using their own UI doesn't mean that they can classify it as an OS. Heck, it still fully relies on Android for crying out loud! Ffs, Huawei's HarmonyOS is indeed a real OS.

The truth is I wouldn't even consider buying this phone because of the notch thing at the top of the screen. It doesn't matter who the manufacturer is, I will just refuse to buy a phone with a hole or notch.

Owh goshh.. This is Android custom UI just like MIUI (Xiaomi), EMUI (Huawei), One UI (Samsung), ZUI (Lenovo), etc. The wrong name which spell "OS" like Color OS, Oxygen OS, Flyme OS are shit. It will make people confuse between what UI and OS are.
All Chinese mobile phone brand should join to focus building Android competitor. Android is lag (not smooth like iOS and WP).

My wish list:
- Bloat free (it's a must)
- Fluid, without glitches, quick bug-fixes.
- Moderately fast updates with at least a 1 major if not 2 Android updates (considering the price range)
- Design wise close to stock, or based on material design with no trace of iOS similarity design wise
- Extra customizations and actually usefull features.
