They tap phones, they use satellite. the tech companies in US are not as aligned with government as much as the companies in China. That's the difference. I am not suggesting who is good or who is bad.

i get the scare for privacy on facebook or any other social media platform for that matter, and i have long known facebook is spying indeed, but aren't people supposed to not share anything private online? if anything, the ones to blame are people who do not know how to use social media properly and securely. my concern really for facebook is more on the platform's ability to sway opinion of the masses often by misinformation. i have been with facebook since 2007, but i deleted my first account and registered for a new one in 2008 and this is the same profile i have been using since then. way back 2012 i knew facebook was spying on people, and at that time i thought it was just the smartphones' microphones- there was this time when our fridge suddenly stopped working and i was discussing with my wife on getting a new one instead or having it serviced, then as i opened my facebook app no more than a minute later my news feed was littered with ads about refrigerators! then this was followed by cases and cases of the same thing so i have become wary of what information i share on facebook. everyone should too, but this doesn't mean stopping or not using it altogether. i mean, social media is still a great tool and have become an indespensable part of our digital life now. rather, just be mindful of what you share (and probably what you say or do when your smartphone is around). i am not such an important individual nor do we have social credit rating system here in the philippines, so facebook's info about me is of no use to them. i don't mind ads on my services as long as they are relevant or personalized and not persistent; the internet is full of free content and i am aware that content creators earn revenue by ads, so i'm okay with ads. again, the only issue here is what people share online.

You know, when Facebook used to update every week with nothing seeming like new, I did get suspicious and that was the last I used of FB app.
I suspect that they even use their app to listen to our real world conversations, except that they don't send the audio itself, but just interpreted keywords.
The app itself maybe a voice recognition software in active use.
As for Zuckerberg, I'd like to believe that he's not a 2bit low life liar we're all making him to be, but I guess he is.
I think their license agreement doesn't prohibit me to abuse him, does it?

Basically the phone doesn't have any balance or whatsoever but we can still use it in terms on using FB messenger. You just need only to open the mobile data in the settings and send SMS all day (no regular calls, SMS because the phone is 0 balance)

Facebook did it once again.....but who cares?? when Donald Duck accuses Huawei for spying without any proof, the people with no brains believe it. When there were solid proofs that Google, Amazon, Apple and Facebook were secretly listening and capturing users' conversations and those companies ADMITTED it, the same people dont give a shit about that because hey! they are US companies!

i know its extremely hard to shut your FB account down. All the none sense postings that your friend posts, your inability to be NUMBER 1 to know something about others, all the news, the polls, drawings that require social media entrances and YOU name it...But I 2 years ago stopped my FB once and for all although I was a huge user and used for a very important reason. MZ can go to hell

I would say that Facebook still on its peak stage here in SEA region especially here in my country(PH). Its our easiest and fastest way to communicate to our family, friends, relatives, etc. that uses the app as well, since here though our phone doesn't have airtime or lets say suspended/deactivated we can still browse it or send chats via messenger without any cost/charge, doesn't need data/hotspot/Wi-Fi. And not all people here are aware of Facebook scandal, they don't even know who's the founder of Facebook.

See my original comment, I only noted that they were the (much) lesser of two evils.
I don't agree with the stuff I'm reading in the news about the FCC / Ajit Pai wanting to abolish Net Neutrality, Abolish Encryption, and Install Government Backdoors into networks etc etc. And I have no understanding how it relates to Trump, as he could be innocent or responsible for such red-flags, so I won't comment on that remark.

For now, let someone like Trump govern for enough time and watch the result. Like the famous Mexico wall, removing your personal encryption security, etc. Without security in the comunications you can be tracked by criminals and/or know if you own something to steal, etc, so the allegation from USA agencies to cut that right and privat encryption from you with the excuse of chase easily the thiefs and criminals only works once the damage is done, if you are still alive...

...it's because people wanted to add me to their Social Media, as it was going to increase their Social Credit Score! Since I was an attractive foreigner and quite easy-going, I was seen as "high value" by most women there and other men for business.
Initially I thought the people were being very openly and friendly, until some of those "friends" told me to stop being friends with other people. They told me that I was "wasting my points" and have "reduced their points" from potentially getting a higher rank / Class System. One individual even offered me money.
Eventually I had enough and deleted my (very inflated) account, and this actually upset a lot of people. I just couldn't handle messaging +30 people constantly every day, since I was busy. Plus I was also trying to get my phone back (App wanted access to everything, and was draining my battery fast). I ended up using a VPN and Viber (which is banned there btw).
For someone who hasn't travelled or doesn't know, I can see why you would think the way that you do. I have just been fortunate enough to see both sides of the coin, and that's why I brought up the facts that I did previously. It really is 1984/Big Brother esque levels there.
