Huawei begins 6G research at its Canadian R&D Centre

14 August 2019
Don't expect any major breakthroughs soon though as there's still no clear 6G standards.

I will complain about 5G with my local carrier.

GAMIRSFM, 14 Aug 2019Let's first focus on having 5G almost everywhere, and then ... moreDeploy the networks are a matter of telecom operators (the carriers), it's not Huawei responsibility or business install it everywhere unless they are hired to do that in some places. But normally the operators of each country have their own companies or local third parties that do such work. I know it because I have worked in two already. In the main subcontractor of my country doing that job and facilities maintenance and in the largest telecommunications operator here as an engineer auditing telephone central facilities. In fact the main carrier have only a small own group or engineers at the main buildings, the rest are all subcontractors due to economic reasons... Not sure if i want work there again, i'm very happy with my actual work. Perhaps in the future if a good seat is offered but at high level and high salary only.

Sadly our sector is also affected by that. Almost everything is automated and large operators/carriers hire the minimum possible staff. When new networks such as 5G are deployed, a wave of subcontracts is made for third-party companies that usually last several years. And they hire and fire workers all the time according to the volume of work. I was one of them at the time. In the last years of a deployment project the amount of layoffs it's obscene.

They provide the 5G equipment and can afford both things 6G R&D and provide the best 5G equiment, including phones without problem. So they'll continue at the top of the 6G too, something seems that some would love not happen. But probably, they'll have again the best value for the money 6G devices and equipment too for next generation.

        Anyway just a research.
For countries who are left behind, just skip 5G and 6G, and start with 7 G. :->

Though 6G means literally nothing at the moment. Samsung's 6G vision likely differs from Huawei's, which also likely differs from Nokia, Siemens, Cisco... That's a good thing, driving inovative ideas. But then everyone will get together, agree on what ideas are good or bad, and then establish the standard.

Good move. In Canada, right in front of the face of Trump and the USA. Good for canadian R&D image and workers there.
