Weekly poll: What cameras do you use the most on your phone?

18 August 2019
Time go settle this - which second camera is more important?

Sort by:

We all use the Main wide camera mostly, why is that an option?

Honestly, there were so many instances I wished my phone had a telephoto camera instead of the ultrawide camera.

      Infrared.

Definitely the telephoto lens. There are places that I couldn't easily go near enough to the subject, so I need that telephoto lens in order to zoom in to that subject from afar. I don't mind ultrawide too much since the standard wide lens is good enough for me.

P.S Now what we need is an external telephoto lens that can go about 5x zoom, i.e 100mm or 150mm. Both Moment and Sirui telephoto lens can go as far as 58mm or 60mm, which is about 2x zoom at best. Sirui's 400mm is a bit of a faff with that tripod.

My Xiaomi Mi 6 only has wide (standard) and telephoto (zoom) and I can't say I miss ultra-wide too much, as long as we are talking photos, panorama usually does a pretty great job, of course you can't really do the same for video recording but that's a different story.

well allow me to say that this poll is absolutely wrong done!!OF COURSE THE MAIN CAMERA is gonna be the most used, ffs!!you should have asked which camera do you use the most BESIDE the main one!!cause people use the main one, while the others (telephoto, ultrawide) are for special occasions, not for everyday and every scenario use!

That really depends on what kind of photos you want to take.. In case you like shorter zoom range, though, Huawei offers you less expensive P30 with 3x telephoto lens. I don't see the point of bashing them for having 5x zoom when they give you an option.

"All you really did is show that not much people will buy it even for its 5x zoom"
This pole is targeted towards tech enthusiasts and not average consumer, so again, your argument is null.

I still own a phone with a single shooter.
Bought a cheap set of clip-on lenses that has a macro, an ultra wide and a fish eye lenses.
I've taken some memorable shots, some distortion and loss of detail on the edges.

But with this set that cost me $3, I was able to push my phone upgrade for another year. And I'm quite happy!

Wide and ultra wide. Until 5x, 10x, and 20x zoom become more standard, the telephoto to me is useless.

                        Front camera

                          My usage is roughly:
33% Ultrawide (x1.0) - fits more in frame
                          15% Black-White (x1.2) - good for effects
                          46% Regular (x1.3) - usually highest quality
                          1% Telephoto (x2.0)- maybe bokeh
                          5% Zoom (x5.0) - poor quality
                          10% Macro (x10) - limited use cases

...I personally would be fine with a single-cam like on the Pixel phones.
Maybe the main cam could be an Ultrawide, but be a High-Quality Shooter instead of those secondary units. Effects like Black-White and Bokeh can be added with post-processing. Zoom and Macro features can use regular camera by adding AI-Digital Zoom, Cropping, and Using external lenses. Even then its going to be poor quality. So for this task I would just use a proper tool: DSLR.

The regular camera. I barely use the secondary telephoto camera on my Note8. I can very well live with just a single camera on the phone for what I use it for. I have my DSLR for other things.

So obviously the 5x isnt that amazing and a huge selling point.

All you really did is show that not much people will buy it even for its 5x zoom.

At the end of the day it's a gimmick to get people excited and luckily it isn't a huge plus.
