Garmin unveils Fenix 6X Pro Solar, its first (partially) solar-powered smartwatch

29 August 2019
The solar cell only extends the battery life, you still need to charge it (about once a month). There are several other Fenix 6 models too.

GMArena, 30 Aug 2019Still no touchscreen?!A serious athlete or a person who values outdoors will not want a touchscreen. Try to operate the touchscreen when it's snowing, or when you are sweaty. It will not work properly. Buttons all the way

Anyone commenting on the price doesn't understand the fact that for triathletes and serious runners, the analytics this watch can put at their fingertips is priceless.

GMArena, 30 Aug 2019Still no touchscreen?!A touchscreen on a ruggedized multi-sport watch? That would be a strange choice.

        Still no touchscreen?!

Garmin's doing a better and better job, these devices look more attractive each generation.
The price goes up though but not much more than decent quartz from known brands, and I much prefer this to a quartz.
The question is whether or not the solar could charge from a dead battery, or if it could only take a bit of load off the main battery, that makes a very significant difference.

Kevin T, 30 Aug 2019Lol the price is a jokeIf the price is high doesn't means it is a joke and people who have money will buy it. You can't expect a device to be ultra premium and to have price like a entry level device.

Lol the price is a joke

Fenix watches are too expensive and so are niche devices. I hope Garmin improves software for its mainstream devices where there is lots of competition and its survival for the fittest. I feel cheap trackers from chinese folks have impacted companies like Fitbit and Garmin at the low end while they cannot compete with Apple Watch or Galaxy/Android Wear watches on high end from Software point of view.
