Apple us... moreUm actually that's how things have always been. Apple was never leading the market in hardware, design, or software really. They've been copying and stealing from the start.
They even had to steal the names iphone and iPad from existing devices.
What they did do is realize that the smart phone scene was starting to boom as devices were greatly improving. So they jumped on the bandwagon.
From there they did help the popularity of smartphones because of their oh so clever we created the world advertising and brand recognition.
That and the more touch fluid ui.
But otherwise it even paled in comparison to things most basic bar and flip phones could do. Let alone the technology and innovations in actual smart phones of the time. Windows mobile, Symbian, Nokia, sony, samsung. Those phones then were bringing all the features, great uis, far superior cameras, multi media functions.... and they could picture text at least.
Iphone couldn't even record video or even send/receive multi media messages.... for over two years... for both of those features. It was until the 3rd... the 3gs came that one could record video. And mms doesn't happen until an update at the 3gs released.
Meanwhile when the 3g was out with 2mp no flash no video recording...
Samsung had the omnia hd with 8mp, flash, and first 720p playback or recording. And the amoled display on it at the time destroyed the crappy faded lcd of the iphone... and pretty much any other one at the time. And stereo speakers. And a completely customizable but simple and very functional ui.
And they really only change the design every so often.
It wasn't even until after jobs passed that they really even started added more features or finally incorporating some standards at all really.

But it's still scummy. But apple has always been this way. Unfortunately samsung and many others are have slowly been migrating to this pricing philosophy.

At least Apple didn't increase prices so that's a good thing, the bad thing is their entry-level model still has a 720p screen in late 2019, which is just appalling. And 4GB and 6GB RAM options are just as appalling. Apple's stupid for removing 3D Touch, it's a mediocre feature but I know some people enjoy using it. Also, why even offer reverse wireless charging with those wimpy batteries? Bilateral wireless charging, as Apple calls it because they want to fool people into thinking it's something new and exciting, should be exclusive to smartphones with big batteries like the Note10+ or Mate 20 Pro.

When pitched against new phones being released by companies like Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi, these so called improvements pale in comparison and makes the price tags much really unappealing.

This in the smartphone world have really changed.
Apple used to be the one who ruled the design and innovation (hardware and software-wise) and now, not only they change their phones' design from time to time (since iPhone 6 the design only changed once), but also they are following the trend, not making it.
Phones started to have big screens, Apple was the last brand to have big screens, then the camera setups changed and Apple is using it now, Samsung uses a pen in their Note devices for years and Apple is introducing it now. I won't even talk about the OS's features because there, things get even more serious.
I am not an Apple user but damn, can't they change the ugly design from the iPhone X? The damn notch is there again? Wtf happened with the great design they had? It's like that they don't even care. An HD screen in 2019?

I was considering jumping from my Note 9 to the 11 Pro for the Apple Pencil, but if no USB-C on the phone end, forget it. I now live the 100% USB-C lifestyle, only taking one charger/cable with me anywhere (the one that came with my 2019 MacBook Pro) and so can charge all my current devices with it, including the Lenovo Gen 3 ThinkPad X1 I'm typing this on because it has two Thunderbolt 3 ports. My Sony headphones and even battery pack are all USB-C, and so is the iPad Pro. Really Apple? (Unless this rumour us wrong.)
