What about samsung? They still play safe.

Shanti Dope, 02 Sep 2019Too late Xperia 1 already does 120Hz in 4K :)))Sorry, the Xperia 1 cannot do 120Hz or 4K, and definitely not both.

It can do sub-4K, and it can do 70Hz refresh.
Whilst 90Hz is okay, you don't notice drastic improvements until you get to 120Hz (gamers will disagree and say 144Hz). And while ~1800p is great, its still just-3K. On top of that it doesn't have a true 10-bit HDR screen, it's almost there at high quality +8bit HDR. There's a lot to love about the Xperia 1 display, but they're all "almost perfect" but never quite there. Cumulative, its almost the best screen around.

The best thing that the Xperia 1 has going for it's screen is that it has No Notch/Hole and has 21:9 good aspect ratio (not something stupid like 19:9). So maybe temper your enthusiasm a bit.

AverageUser, 03 Sep 2019For all of us who are non-gamers, this will just be another... morewell, this is the positive step though- making it more available to maisntream devices to eventually make the technology affordable. i am not a gamer myself and the initial reason i got the razer phone 1 and 2 was the speakers; but once i started using the phone with its 120Hz refresh rate screen, there is just nothing that can compare to the smoothness of motion on it. even just a simple swipe up of the app drawer is heavenly. then when i go back to using phones with 60Hz refresh rate the experience is close to being jarring. i know as well that this high refresh rate is a bane to to the battery charge, but since 4000mAh is now the norm i think there is no better time than now to start introducing high refresh rate to the masses. really, it is all about the smoothness and the perceived response time because of this.

For all of us who are non-gamers, this will just be another expensive thing we don't need...

it doesn't say it would be gaming centric, so it is a good thing mainstream devices are moving up with their refresh rates. thanks to oneplus 7 pro. hope next year flagships will be 90Hz and then eventually 120Hz. after almost a year now of using the razer phone 1 and 2, high refresh rate is really something up there.

Shanti Dope, 02 Sep 2019Too late Xperia 1 already does 120Hz in 4K :)))wrong. sony fans have long been saying this as it is an option under developer options on some of their devices. however, sony confirmed way back 2017 that their devices max at 60Hz. it was likewise confirmed for xperia 1 that it does not have 120Hz. some users at xda also have tried tweaking the refresh rate of their xperia 1s that had the option for 120Hz in developer options and were only able to raise the refresh rate effectively to 70Hz.

All is business today. This upgrade could be given to oppo10x zoom smartphone earlier to their buyers but not yet given by company as if we compare to oneplus 7 pro its have all the great features at the same price like oppo reno high end model claims and are selling the price tag.
All of working of these companies could feel cheat with their customers.

You Sony fanboys always spamming your senseless comments under every article that talks about other companies high refresh rate displays.

Looks to me a completely new gaming phone like "Oppo Reno2 G" or something to that effect. After-all they did announce Reno2 'F' phones previous week. 90Hz and above is mostly gaming phone territory these days (barring OP7 pro) not to mention the teaser does feature a game on screen.

Plus nobody is talking about those huge top and bottom bezels, which might come in handy while gaming and attaching accessories, and those stereo speakers? Huge HUGE plus.

Shanti Dope, 02 Sep 2019Too late Xperia 1 already does 120Hz in 4K :)))I haven't seen the Xperia 1 able to do this anywhere

Shanti Dope, 02 Sep 2019Too late Xperia 1 already does 120Hz in 4K :)))Can that even be used all the time, if you want to (like I would, since anything is cancer in 60 Hz), or only in certain situations? If you can't enable it permanently, then it's a mostly missed opportunity actually.

Looks like s8/s9 design rip off 😔

Shanti Dope, 02 Sep 2019Too late Xperia 1 already does 120Hz in 4K :)))And that is the only good thing about the phone.
Xperia keeps making overpriced phnoes months behind what other companies can offer in terms of features and hardware.
