Sony Mobile's division in Sweden will be merged in Sony Nordic

03 September 2019
This merger means some positions are becoming redundant and a further 60 employees may be let go (in addition to the 200 announced last year).

Anonymous, 05 Sep 2019If they are overpriced, what does that make of the iPhone? ... moreThat's just plain wrong.
Out of all the smartphones, iPhones are the most expensive* to build. And that's not factoring the amount of money that goes into Software and R&D, let alone the tonne of money Apple throws at marketing yearly.

With that said, the iPhone yields the highest revenue stream thanks to having the highest sales figures and highest margin line. Few devices might have a larger margin line, and some OEMs sell more units annually... but never the two. And on top of this, Apple owns the lion's share in software revenue, followed by distant second by Google Pixel, and minuscule third by Xiaomi Mi Store. Even if you combined the hardware division from Samsung and the software division from Google, it wouldn't match Apple's. Sure, there is some revenue (and even profit) for smaller players, but while that may be in the vicinity of tens of millions of dollars, Apple is playing in the billions of dollars segment. And let's not forget about their companion revenue streams for other accessories like earphones, watches, tablets, TV Boxes etc etc.

Like it or not, Apple is business savvy. They have a good thing going for themselves. And they have the best line of product/options for many people, people who are repeat customers, and especially people who are inclined to spend money. While you and I may not fall into this category, it would be disingenuous to say otherwise.

*outside of Huawei Mate Fold, Samsung Galaxy Fold, and those gold/diamond decorated phones.

                Poor staff and their families.
They are not responsible for horrible Sony pricing and marketing.
If Sony makes Their phones just 100-150 euros more expensive from manufacturing price they would sell very well.
Clumsy Sony managers which believe their flagship will sells for 1000+ in euros. Funny.
Funny and sad at the same time.

BTW, all SD800-series did have a rough start, with SD810 being the worst as far as I can recall, and at around SD821 it got better after still issues with SD820 (which qualcomm refused, but still made SD821...). Typically SD 8-series ran very hot and draining the battery. Sony was of those who underclocked some models to limit the heat issue.

i wonder where the sony fanboys are? yes, sony mobile is a great oem, but they are stubborn af- won't listen to customers, won't give in to trends, basically doesn't want to make a phone that would sell. despite the defenses of sony fans, here's not only a big slap in your face but also shoves down your throat that sony mobile is not doing well. if you are a sony fan, the fricking buy their products and not preach here without basis. i was a sony fan but not anymore, but i still bought their xperia 1 recently at least to take part in trying to keep them relevant. i know that is not that much, but at least i bought their product unlike some here who claims to be sony fans and firecely defends the brand but do not own a measly low-end xperia.

Well, you really can't say that it even exists really. Absolutely horrible experience, which actually lead our company to stop offering them to employees. Phones kept having issues (for example; very unresponsive UI and screen overall, which never really got fixed, many Xperias we had also liked to run REALLY HOT) and their support didn't feel that obligated to help. One last Xperia Compact died a few weeks ago and that's it, no more their phones.

Price apparently did not mean you get a decent customer service experience and working, durable devices in return.

They should have closed down a long time ago and focused on camera sensors (which are great). They are innovative for sure, but no one wants them anymore. They are overpriced. Shame really, as they had a lot of potential.
