That isn't necessarily a bad thing, with 40mp worth of data, and now levels remarkably low for such a small sensor, printing an 8x10 would look far superior than on an 8mp camera. 40mp provides lots of data to throw away, whereas 8mp doesn't.
However, you're not going to get poster-sized professional prints out of this thing.

But I think the very very impressive 5 and 8mp pictures will be enough (or more than enough) for everyone!!

Anonymous, 29 Feb 2012let me I ask you something... What will u choose? (a) 41mp ... moreI'll always pick a 41mpx superb camera phone, and have one iphone for second phone for apps, and internet. too bad nokia use poor symbian. but allways for first phone is superb camera which is allways in my pocket rather than 12mpx middle class camera phone with superb fast proc, and soft. Every year buy one new phone, and forget old one quick, but photos last forever, and want superb quality. Best photos I have is allways when I use my mobile phone

Its just incredible to see a normal image when magnified doesn't get affected by visual noise, retaining its clarity. Its indeed a brilliant technology. I only wonder if this pureview technology can be used in lumia 610,900. The combination of windows based phone with this technology could be the next big thing in the market!

Pal, 28 Feb 2012no offence but the samples are worst than my htc 8mp photos... moreThis is the stupidest thing i ever read in my life....htc cameras are supposed to be the worst in the industry...even motorola and bb cameras are better. Among non-nokia smartphones, the iPhone 4s has the best camera. Samsung has 16 mp phones in japan and they can't match n8's quality. Nothing can. And now this-boy, is this big!

AnonD-21645, 01 Mar 2012LOL - I've said it a million times, nothing gets people mor... more+1. valid point
most of the smartphone users have invested quite good amount for their high end models, be it Samsung, HTC , Apple , LG. someone shifting to nokia will definetly compares the benefits and the amount they have already invested. Importantly, none of the current o/s are performing lousily, be it android, iOs or WP, all have good customer satisfactions in their boundaries.
The phone shall sell for good figures, but it shall be within the Nokia loyalties or the exisiting user base. Try to get a new customer base by showcasing pureview, May not work.
Lastly, pricing plays a major role.

LOL - I've said it a million times, nothing gets people more stoked than Nokia - I think they have the same loyal fanbase as those who love Apple..
My only issue(s) with this phone are...
a) screen resolution - 640 x 360 (?) considering this is picture-centric - you're not going to appreciate great pics on such a poor resolution screen, and everything will look a bit 'blocky'
b) Symbian OS (controversially) - however good or bad, the fact is that it's nowhere near as actively developed for than Winmo, iOS or Android... which ultimately means the consumer has less apps and the phone has less functionality... becoming outdated very quickly...
Had they put this camera on the Lumia 900 - I'd have gone for it...
Had they given the screen a better resolution... I 'may' have given it a go...
BUT
Many new customers are coming from Android (like me) or iOS or Winmo and they've invested money into apps, etc. to move to an (arguably) dying OS - I just can't see people jumping to it just because of the camera... it needs guts to back it up...
