Unless you are in a city that is already fully equipment with 5G network, you probably don't need 5G phone for at least a year or so.

As compeition get tougher, expect to see more brand coming out with new model in shorter interval.

A very good example is k20 pro which is flagship level phone for xaiomi & only 3 months old approx, and the two things as a user I think before buying it now are
        1. Inspite of having launched with 855 and a possibility of near 5g availablity there is no story on it,I know most phones haven't and that could be a decision influenced by Qualcomm itself as there cheap marketing strategy.
        2. Already the news is out that k30 series will have 5g and have more features and could be launched very soon. And most probably with 855 or 855 plus

Now if I know that a newer model launch is imminent soon I would definately not but the k20 pro considering it will be outdated in metre 6 months time. This as a consumer is confusing

The fast release of new phone models with very close price gaps is creating confusion and indirectly hitting sales, earlier people used to wait for a redmi note xpro device, but wth the current trend the companies are releasing smartphones way to fast,

Thats such a sad way to go about things especially since so much misinformation exists around. Why do you wish to contribute to the mountain of rubbish and fake news around ? So sad.

The Redmi Note 4 launched years ago on Android 6.0 was officially upgraded to Android 7.0 but has a plethora of Android 9.0 ROMs available.

And what was that rubbish about GPS ? I can't even imagine the absurdity of that part of your post. Its simply not true.

Nolan, 08 Sep 2019MediaTek phones do not have device GPS support, and that's ... moreWhat do you talking about? Phones with mediatek does support GPS like the Xiaomi note 8 Pro. When you mean some Chinese phones - they probably doesn't support gps because they have cheap antennas but the processor is fine.

Nolan, 08 Sep 2019MediaTek phones do not have device GPS support, and that's ... moreWhat year r u living in? The Helio P70 phone I gave to my dad has GPS working fine, just as well as my SD 821 phone and supported natively. It also got upgraded from Oreo to Pie and is slated to get Android 10 in a few months.
                Please stop spreading false information.

MediaTek phones do not have device GPS support, and that's a major issue: Maps, cab apps, food delivery apps and anything that requires positioning / location services will not work.

There used to be a workaround - something called EPO files which could be downloaded to enable GPS (not a considerable improvement though, just marginal), but those servers went down many years ago.

Also, the lifespan of a MediaTek phone is roughly 6 to 7 months considering no upgrades will be available.

Of course people will not want to buy it.

Or maybe those 300,000 phones were bought up by 'Normal' people - who don't care to read GSMA or any other tech website for that matter. People who get lapped up by clever marketing.

Taking the GSMA userbase for a universal indicator for popularity is misguided I suppose

Xiaomi is really bad with it's availability. In Pakistan they kind of play trash market game where they don't release their good phones and only launch less exciting phones for higher prices which they know aren't going to sell well in other countries.

You know, they promise for 2 OS updates & 2 years of security updates. But I only got security updates till December 2018. That's only 19 months of security updates. So, I don't think it matters wether its Snapdragon or MediaTek, as long as its Xiaomi.
