Huawei Mate 30 Pro photo offers a close look at its waterfall screen, new face recognition hardware

11 September 2019
The left and right side of the Mate 30 Pro screen will curve 90°. Also, the hardware inside the notch has been redesigned since the Mate 20 Pro.

Unpopular opinion: I like the curved screen on my mate 20 pro. Agreed, the curvature isn't as bad as it seems on the mate 30 pro.
You get used to it, like my previous phone (galaxy s8).
The curved screen helps with my navigation control, and I think playing a video doesn't look bad at all if not just as good as on a flat screen.
Just my opinion!

Hate curved screens full stop, it's a pity Huawei have gone down this route. Hopefully they will do a 30X model with the same camera setup.

lewein, 12 Sep 2019that waterfall screen is plain stupid. curved screen are st... moreSole reason for their existence is marketing purpose = hide the bezels on the side so you can call it bezeless and ramp up the useless screen to body ratio number.

That's all it is to it. Spec wars. But downsides are real = incidental side touches and highlight on the curved edge that never goes away and ruins the viewing experience. But marketing people know their stuff, they are very well aware that people justify their purchases based on promotional specs and can live with the trade offs by convincing themselves they got more than they lost.

              Waterfall screen.
It may sounds unique, but it's not practical at all.
Seems like i will be going with Pixel 4 or another phone. It's a shame because i am happy with my Huawei phone.

I saw a photo once that while displaying a text, part of the words were in the curve.
It will beeven more annoying than samsung screen.

Maame Raggae, 12 Sep 2019The software doesn't look like android It is quite obviously Android Pie. Maybe the search widget & the lack of icons on the homescreen is making you think otherwise.

that waterfall screen is plain stupid. curved screen are stupid as a whole.
