I have been using since i was 12 years old, now im 21.
If u are a loyal sony user, u might know why they put that kind of price. Build quality, long term usage. B4 this i have been using z series, tbh even they using quite shitty chipset like 801, 810 and 820, it lasted for 5 years. even the battery have long term life to it. if ure a type of person who wants to stay with the phone for a very long time, sony to go then.

Even if you hold a stick in your hand, in order to reach the top you need to change your grip, and that's the problem. Having to hold the phone in your hand and being able to reach the top by just moving your thumb instead of changing the grip is what it's about. That's proper compact phone. This is just the "compact" version if you compare it to it's bigger sibling, which isn't enough to call it compact.

The body of the xperia 5 looks like a note 8 or note 9 clone to me.

Compared to sony which starts from 0,8 up to 1,95
But we were talking about MI9 which is a really nice device in all terms and aspects.

On camera score they dont beat Sony but if i compare Video and FPS of xiaomi with Video and FPS of Sony phones xiaomi is winner.
Same goes for everything else.
Even SAR levels of xiaomi devices are better than Sony ones.

Most importantly the notch/waterdrop/punch blocks some area of the screen just like you stick a stamp on your eye it is annoying for view experience, therefore it is ugly and eyesore, otherwise you hide the notch/waterdrop/punch then the bezel is come back again then what is the advantage!? But marketing is very important although they copy each other but they success to sell it.

I find it has more content to show in one page. Such as some apps come with in-app tab and in-app navigator to making the paragraph look even shorter, but with this 21:9 display ratio the taller screen is much nicer and comfortable to read the content. I am not a gamer but according the introduction the wider screen also has it merit to show the wider view field for some game.

Sony is gambling big on 21:9 (patented 'CinemaWide') to differentiate itself from other Android phones. Personally I think it's too little, too late to revive Sony's mobile business.

Xiaomi cuts away the middleman, so its products are (in theory) cheaper.

So Super Amoled vs Oled is basicaly same. Mi9 have gorilla glass 6 and the sony have same gorrila glass 6. You did not read the specs did you??? Just protecting Sony because you wrongly thinking they are actualy better even they arent. Price doesnt always means better and increased quality and most xiaomi users which had more expensive brands before knows that.
That notch is super small and everybody uses it now every company or phone maker so your complain is plain stupid.
Card slot in era of cloud storage is completely useless you asking for something which every touch phone can have now as a cloud storage which does the same apart the fact physical card can get broken.
Sony 5 have this: 3.1, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector; USB Host, Fast battery charging 18W (USB Power Delivery 2.0) USB Power Delivery.
Mi9 have this: 2.0, Type-C 1.0 reversible connector, USB On-The-Go, Fast battery charging 27W (Quick Charge 4+) Fast wireless charging 20W.
So if i compare Mi9 Quick charge 4+ and 27W charger vs 18W and USB 3.1 the Mi9 charging capabilities are a lot faster.
So your charging and card slot comment was laughable.

But it cuts some of the story content on Instagram, so it's not yet fully optimised for all apps. The question is...will it be in the future? No other brand is following the 21:9 (except for Motorola). If the 90% phones are not 21:9, I don't think that app devellopers will put much thought into it and optimise the apps.

If i compare both phones Mi9 is a lot better device in every aspect.

If yes the 21:9 display ratio include more content and this also apply to social app like whatsapp Instagram Facebook, you can read the thread/comments much comfortable and reduce swipe frequently over the paragraph.
Furthermore the split screen also has bigger space and much better to get the feature done.
On the other hand, the taller display ratio can prevent drop phone due to the side grip was longer than shorter phone, you can have much firm grip.
One more thing, the 21:9 display ratio on photography/videography is great for capture landscape and group photo as it was even wider field than 16:9/18:9/19:9
Other than this, you can enjoy the 21:9 advantage for cinematic experience on mobile device.
