In India where these phones are very popular we don't get year old flagships for even close to this price. The S9 is still 2.5 times the cost of this device. The LG phones are maybe 1.6 times the cost and good luck getting any updates for an LG phone.

1. build quality: no way a mid ranger can match the build of a flagship.
2. display: in most cases displays from the flagship is way better than a mid ranger. a top LCD is better than a poor or mediocre OLED.
3. sensors: flagships put better quality and more sensors.
4. performance: a year old flagship can beat the mid ranger in most cases. the SOC is more powerful, the RAM has higher bandwidth. so a 6GB ram on a xiaomi would be less powerful than a 6GB ram for say Samsung S10.
5. look: generally top phones has better looks. front and read both.
6. camera: tell me few mid ranger that has better camera than last years flagships.
the only issue is with battery. in general midrange phones have better battery than flagships. so why won't someone buy a year old flagship when he can get both at the same price range?

Yay finally Note 8 Pro in for review. I hope I will buy it but I don't know price exactly, hope its cheap and reasonably priced

For the asked price today you can buy some of the real last years flagships and all do they all have their down sides the good ones will still be miles ahead in almost everything with still better & longer lasting support & usability."
If you got just 1 Android update on redmi series, why is better to buy a 1-2 year old phone wich will have same number of updates?!

Redmi Note 3 is the earlier Xiaomi with decent build quality.
I have it, used it till it start have power slot problem after 2 year use. i often use it in the rain which may contribute to the damage. Its easily fixable by replacing the problematic part for usd $10.
And then i bought Redmi Note 5 ai,
i give it a case and screenguard (now at my 4th screenguard thanks to my clumsy hand).
yet, despite the abuse, i have use it for a year with no major problem.
Also, plenty people around my use Xiaomi and most of them have no major problem other than some whose phone "fell into concrete floor without a case", "got crushed when trying to move a steel plate" or "dipped into a river".

We will see actual measurements about throttling but it will throttle all right in combination of an older FinFET and high GPU frequency if it's not paird with good cooling system and a dispersion back plate. Since this is a mid ranger on the cheap don't expect such cooling system additionally Readmy switched to plastic backs in similar products (RN7, Pacophon...) so it even won't have a back plate. Just remember how even S845 when in similar enclosures throttle hard despite better lithography & more power efficient GPU that's clocked lower. All do there whose cuple MTK phones that received developer love still none of them never reached even close to RN3 one which even Qualcomm pooled the plug long time ago on S650 has stable Android 10 builds today. Xiaomi only gives one Android version updated to Readmi series + one ~two years security & MIUI updates upon that (usually). For the asked price today you can buy some of the real last years flagships and all do they all have their down sides the good ones will still be miles ahead in almost everything with still better & longer lasting support & usability.

Still waiting for its official release in my place.
Either this or Realme X2 will replace my Redmi Note 5 ai.
SD730G and dedicated SDCard Slot in RealMe X2 is pretty tempting but i never use RealMe before and the price is still not released yet.
