So what is this all about???

I had an essential. It was beautiful and a decent phone overall. However, it did overheat at times and it was smaller than expected. Ended up returning it to get a note 8.

Bought a used ,mint condition Ph1 and the lcd display was disappointing. This phone would also get put in recovery mode after fully charging. This was a common problem I learned amongst other users.Had official Android 10 update too.Totally bad experience.I paid 160.00 and had to sell for 80.00 because no one wanted to deal with these problems,I don't blame them one bit.

          Essential deserves some respect.
At least they kept updating their devices longer than most companies that asked for higher prices.

This is a snippet from XDA website.
"We were curious why Essential is testing a build with microG, so we reached out to XDA Senior Member MaR-V-iN, one of the developers behind the microG project, for clarity. They informed us that they were aware of OEMs testing microG in the wild, possibly to reduce dependency on Google or provide more privacy options for enterprise or government use."

If that is true, count me in! It's LineageOS for the masses, and that should do good enough for me.

I'm posting this comment from my essential phone, I'm.glad to hear that there could be a new device on the way, this PH1 is the best phone I have every had, I love the form factor, and hope the next one will be of a similar size. I've been using this phone for just over a year, fantastic screen, build quality and how premium it looks, and consistently getting 9-10 hours of screen time, mostly on WiFi, over 2-3 day's, and taking quality photos using the gcam app. Would certainly be good to have a slightly larger battery, an oled screen, expandable storage and a headphone jack with any new device .

I still use the PH1. It's the phone I've used the longest (ever). Perfect size, perfect material, great performance, cool accessories, great software and dev support. Even the camera is pretty good now days, especially when using the GCam app.

I am the proud owner of a PH-1. Hands down the best cellphone ever made. It´s simply incredible. Looking forward for the next one!!

Anonymous, 24 Sep 2019You are forgetting the complete fiasco with the camera. ... moreNot to mention, the availability of replacement parts, such as battery and screen, which is very rare (or probably non-existent?)

The Essential Phone 2 needs to be similar to the first one, with the following essential upgrades:

Latest SoC with more Ram, OLED Display (with centralized punch hole), IP68 Certification, Triple Camera Setup, Big Battery.

Their biggest mistake? Camera sucked bit time from day 1.

This is (nowadays) like if you get a new phone that has bugs or works pretty bad when trying to make a phone call.

Essential ph1 was a great phone at the lower price points when it was available for around $250 compared to other brands even today in its price range. As mentioned earlier, if they could concentrate on their camera and bring out a headphone jack, I believe it would be an excellent device.
On a separate note, essential ph1 received the Android Q update 2 weeks back and still running pretty smooth.

Essential promoted the camera, before the phone was released, as being flagship class leading. Then when the phone came out is it was a mediocre camera with inferior hardware that never could have lived up to Essential's hype. All of the reviews criticized the lameness and bad performance of the camera. It was that betrayl of their potential customers, with hype their hardware could never live up to (along with a few other similar misleading claims about the phone), that sank Essential.

But the physical design was great. I'd love to see another Essential phone with the same size and design, but in which they actually put a good camera. And a headphone jack would be the cherry on top.

Wow.. the android father is back. Back with 5G connectivity

The essential phone was a well-built, highly underrated phone. It's only gripe was that it was overpriced at launch according to it's brand value. Essential needed to follow the OnePlus strategy in raising it's prices. Hopefully they'll do that now.
