Punch holes look like dead pixels and the strip above them is practically useless. Notches can be partially hidden in the upper bezel if needed, and can fit a larger camera this way without ruining the screen much.
But yeah, big ugly notches are also ugly.
In this case, might as well make it a notch.
As for me, I've tried watching movies on punch hole displays. The hole keeps distracting me, while I adapted quite easily to the notch.

You know what'd be more innovative? Make the cameras protrude a bit from the screen.

It's amazing how small bezels have gotten over the years. There's practically no bezels aside from a tiny chin. Not a fan of dual-punch hole though.
