You said that it'll make a difference in still objects, that "the artifacts" could be from be subject moving... but the subject on that phone wasn't moving so...?
About being stupid, I'll let you think for yourself about this a bit more.

Anonymous, 03 Oct 2019I forgot about how annoying Apple can be, giving made up ne... moreAgain, the new thing is that, yes whilst HDR and image stacking has been reliant on a certain degree of machine learning in the past, this represents the first time that actual dedicated machine learning hardware has been primarily responsible for processing the finished image.

Will it reinvent the wheel, doubtfully. To simply write it off as just HDR by another name though, does not do justice to what is happening behind the scenes.

After all ‘night mode’ on devices like the pixel series is not a million miles in away from the HDR+ it also offers, in terms of process. I didn’t see a lot of ‘it’s just another HDR mode’ complaints on its debut though, actually I saw none.

Looking forward to seeing what the result are like myself, will reserve judgement until then.

Huawei has an algorithm that yields single-digit improvements in GPU performance, generally it falls within the category of DVFS, but they have to call it "GPU Turbo". How stupid would it be for somebody to fall for that?

I forgot about how annoying Apple can be, giving made up new names ("deep fusion") for an existing technology (HDR), so that they can then pretend they invented something new. And all of the Apple users will fall for this, because feeling special and different is the main product Apple actually sells.

I think this new festure also will be released for the older x or xs.

The sample given certainly shows superior detail to regular 12MP, it may even prove superior in detail retention compared to Gcam's night mode used in daylight (needs verification of course), which would definitely put Apple in the front of the pack.
Also AFAIK other night modes don't stack a true long exposure like what this article claims for Apple's, they stack a varying number of exposures, each with the same shutter speed.

It can only use a very powerful proc... moreThat's clearly false, even if only A13 could do it in real-time, others could do it with lag, which is sometimes acceptable, like how Gcam's ZSL would sometimes crash on other phones, but even without ZSL, HDR+ is still functional, just with many seconds of processing time.
