Noise isolating is just a bung to try to block outside sounds from the ear canal. Active noise cancellation monitors the exterior noise and plays its phase-inverse to completely mask it.

The noise cancellation is going to suck severely if they use their in-house Beats by Dre solution.
Those headphones really suck, much better to get a Bose or Sony at the moment.
Not to mention EarPods were designed to let ambient sound come in, safety reasons, and they're also designed for comfort. The cannot do noise cancellation effectively if they don't isolate the ear-canal. And if Apple changes the design (in-ear), then some people won't buy it because it becomes really uncomfortable to wear. Plus, the noise isolation means you can't hear something like a car coming from behind you.
People should stick to the AirPod 2's for comfort/safety, or upgrade to the Bose for more sound/noise isolation cancellation. The middle ground is not ideal.

Wait a minute...so all this time the $159 earphone designed by the lazy company and dangling out of people's ear does not have noise cancelling??? Even my $20 earphone has noise cancellation. Apple never dissappoints and getting better at giving people reason to bash them.
