03 October 2019
Dual Exposure will give you separate controls for the shadows and highlights.

What kind of breed is this dog from? lol. So similar to the one I adopted a year ago. :)

Anonymous, 03 Oct 2019"So, it’s sort of line manual HDR mode (HDR takes a short e... moreBut its HDR+ (even the enhanced mode) performs differently from Night Sight. I believe they don't only take underexposed frames, unless what you mean by that is that they use the one with lowest exposure as a base to apply corrections to. Because if they only take underexposed ones, then what's the use of taking 7, 9 even 15 frames to get the final result?

It looks fantastic and the dual mode is great. However, felt a little confused because isnt the main camera the same as Pixel 3. On the specs sheet it is listed as such. I know there are extra features withe the additional lens but the primary one seems to be the same?

That edge detection on those portraits are to die for. Wow... if the end product is this sharp than I guess I made a mistake not waiting and jumping from the Pixel 3 to an iPhone 11 Pro. Time will tell.

You can bet those will look amazing on the screen. It's just not that good on a computer, that's all. They will be virtually noiseless on the phone. That's amazing, I've only seen Sony in their mirrorless cameras to be able to do this. That's real control over dynamic range, which is what has been missing forever in every camera out there! Computional photography makes my DSLR look dated...

we can't get everything we want at once, right? we should just be thankful for the granular control we have available in real time. we cannot expect oems to cram every single possibility for you all at once, that would bloat the camera app. this is actually amazing as it is- software compensates for what the hardware lacks- granular control. this pushes further the capabilities of computational photography aided by better, faster chips as opposed to having the actual camera hardware to provide these controls.

I'll wait a year with a Pixel 2 and buy P4 used. Perhaps an apk will bring this stuff anyway.

Photos look great almost like the one you see in magazines but sadly less natural and more artificial.

For those who are interested to buy Pixel 4/4XL, which colour will you choose?

I can't wait for Apple to copy Google's Dual Exposure like they did with Google's Night Sight. Mark my words, LOL!
Btw, these photos looks phenomenal, Google has done it again.

The photos looks amazing coming from a smartphone! The details and quality can't be compared to a actual camera with bigger sensor, but definitely top all other smartphone at the moment even with a significantly smaller sensor.

Google has definitely squeezed everything out of the hardware, can't imaging what it would be like if they used a bigger sensor

Anonymous, 03 Oct 2019You do not seem to understand as I see. Only advantage ... moreThere are several reasons why the high resolution mode of Quad Bayer sensors often don't have much more detail:
                                        1. The most important problem is that Quad Bayer sensors have 4 green pixels, 4 red pixels, 4 blue pixels, etc, which lead to extreme demosaicing issues in the high resolution mode. A solution would be a super resolution algorithm.
                                        2. You need a very good noise performance, otherwise the noise reduction destroys details. A solution would be multi frame noise reduction or cameras that capture more light.
                                        3. You need a very sharp lens.

I would like to see a smartphone with an additional(!) Bayer (not Quad Bayer) high resolution sensor.
