The last Oracle, 03 Oct 2019My k9 probably understand more about sensors than you do. I... moreYou do not seem to understand as I see.

Only advantage is the more control of dynamic range, since a group of 4 pixel will have different exposure for each pair. Nothing more.

The 48MP Quadbayer does not give you details of native 48MP, but same amount of a 12MP. Every phone reviewed by this site they keep writing this same comment that they see no difference at 48, just more noise.

When you merge 4 pixels to emulate a 1,6 micron pixel, you do not have same amount of light absorbed by a true 1,6 micron pixel. There is a small gap between pixel, like that space between tiles. A bit of light is lost.

Sensors with smaller pixels are easier to make, also cheaper.

      How many 1" quadbayer? Zero
      How many 4/3 quadbayer? Zero
      How many APSC quadbayer? Zero
How many FF quadbayer ? 1
How many Medium Format quadbayer? Zero

      What a coincidence ....

Revolting design, laughable batteries (especially on P4), very modest storage size for 2019, 6GB RAM isn't something amazing by now, minimal photo quality improvement (if any, compared to P3), insane price at start, no headphones in the box (P3 had it!). Sorry Google but this is not I was waiting for.

Lol yeah Come On Google. This year you will have to play the catch up game unlike these past few years as this year the iPhone 11 has set the bar that high. Lets see.

Awesome feature, hopefully I'll get this in a gcam port some time.

Say what you will, but atleast we can call it "truly innovative"

The Pixel camera is praised for many for "being simple", but this new one adds just the thing that I love, "control". User control, more specifically in the "Dual Exposure" mode.
The ability to control how to expose the shadows AND highlights SEPARATELY when shooting HDR is marvelous.
                  Dare I say, "game changer"?

With that said, I have the impression that Google just doesn't care about pure IQ, right? It's all about the exposure and colors. There's no way to evade the noise and grainy output with sensors that small, so they don't care.

Samsung, Apple , Google, Sony, HTC and LG do not use it.
Except for a little boost of DR, there is no advantage of native sensor of same size.

                        64MP 1/1.7" Tetracell will perform worse than a 16MP 1/1.7".
Same amount of details and less light absorbed.

                            Its a really neat feature

The improvements in photo quality are very minor. I also guess, this is the end of the road for the 12MP sensor of 1/2.3" and below. It cant get any better quality photos.
Looking forward to the next generation of Samsung's Quad Pixel sensors, with improved optics and ISPs.

In the video the preview looks extremely artificial. If they removed the exposure compensation slider, then it's a terrible feature. I don't want to use 2 sliders when I just want to get a darker(!) image with less blown out highlights. Google phones often take too bright photos in low-light (yes, also in HDR+ mode (which is a fast night mode) the photos are unrealistically bright), therefore the exposure compensation slider is important. Instead of a highlights slider and a shadows slider it would be better to have a exposure compensation slider and an optional highlights slider.

Night mode = artificial looking. Look at the sky, this blue at night does not exist.

Bokeh = second photo (girls by the window), the space between both girls has less blur than other parts, also around hair and shoulder the blur cuts pieces of her.

"So, it’s sort of line manual HDR mode (HDR takes a short exposure for the highlights and a long one for the shadows and then merges the two images)."
Wrong. Google's HDR+ only captures underexposed frames. That's also the reason why HDR+ is also a night mode.

Now thats a cool feature to have onboard
