A dslr can easily beat a so called smartphone camera in terms of lowlight Photography. Because large sensor capture more light than a smartphone camera sensor. A smartphone camera produces strong noise even at base ISO and a dslr can achieve clean image even at ISO 3200. So how you compare a dslr with a smartphone camera ?

But this is my finding from comparing my dSLR to my k20 pro with gcam. You can say it give a false sense of details, but it is still more than accurate enough that 99% of the people will not realise except with compared side by side.
At least this is the case for simple night scene with non-moving subject.
I do not want to believe my $1000 dSLR is only as good as my new $400 smartphone, but that is the reality. Im not saying smartphone camera can replace dSLR, but under specific low light condition, they are comparable to dSLR

I had to hit iso6400, f2.8 and 1/13 just to achieve proper exposure. And yes, comparison is made with in-camera JPG as well

Gives you flashy colors and brightness to look good on the screen. But when you put actually in proper big screen you see all the flaws of small sensors and incaple apertures, DSLR makes 1000 times better raw pictures without any conoutional nonsense, gives you as it is. Smartphones makers has no choice but to invent all kind of tricks just to fool clueless people

At least until camera manufacturers start to include this processing in their cameras

DSLR are like mountain, and smartphones are your avarage mole hole in your garden. You cant litterally compete massive sensors and optics with tiny smartphone stuff, just stop, get your grip together

Disastrous phones, when everybody trying to give you massive storage room high pixel high sensor cameras and insane performance, google gives you crappy hardware with wait for it.... radar system for almost 1000 dolars. Google just give up, you have no clue what are you doing

I have! quality is comparable at night scene even when you pixel peep. dSLR still have the advantage of speed.. etc, but when it comes to static night shoot without use of additional equipment (tripod.. etc), smartphone are very comparable. dSLR have to up the ISO much more than smartphone due to the lack of AI processing. User with kit lens will be even worse of than my comparison as I am using f2.8 lens with OIS.
As a dSLR user for over 10 years, I am both happy and sad that smartphone camera have come so far.
