Microsoft will pull the plug on Windows Phone 8.1's app store on in mid-December

16 October 2019
The OS stopped receiving updates back in 2017, but users could still download apps. That will end in two months.

Anonymous, 17 Oct 2019Windows app store was terrible anyway. Just go for android ... moreActually Windows 10 works at least as well on low memory (RAM) devices as Windows 8.1. The memory requirements of Windows have not increased significantly after Windows Vista. I have personally used a Windows tablet and some low end laptops with only 2 GiB of RAM with both 8.1 and 10, and there is no noticeable difference if you use the 32-bit version of Windows, as you should anyways if you have less than 4 GiB of RAM. However, if you have at least 4 GiB, again there is no significant difference between 64-bit versions of 8.1 and 10.

Of course SSD will make almost everything faster regardless of RAM. HDDs should be used for bulk storage of data, but not for the OS and applications.

Windows app store was terrible anyway. Just go for android and stop crying. Windows for phones is dead. But windows for computers is great. If your computer have less than 8GB ram and you are still using HDD don't install Windows 10 and go for Windows 8.1.

Windows Phone had been am awful OS right from the very beginning, with that horrible Metro tiles UI.
No one wanted to use that horrible UI, which is why no one wanted to develop apps for it, and without apps, it was pretty much dead.
Had Microsoft tried to make an UI that had been similar to iOS or Android, instead of coming up with that deranged drug fantasy of the Metro tiles UI, they might've established themselves as a competitor...
But instead, they tried to force their Metro garbage down everyone's throat, even with Windows 8, which became the most hated Windows *ever*, just because of that horrible Metro tiles UI, which no one liked.

Even after pumping countless millions into it, it was only a matter of time until it died.
I'm actually quite surprised they kept the (mostly empty) app store running this long, after Windows Phone already died quite a while ago.

windows phone and windows 10 mobile were great experiments at competition but judging from my experience it was very frustrating to use apps and browse apps in the windows store yet alone the quality of the apps.
