Microsoft will pull the plug on Windows Phone 8.1's app store on in mid-December

16 October 2019
The OS stopped receiving updates back in 2017, but users could still download apps. That will end in two months.

Adul Al Salami Kebab, 16 Oct 2019microsoft y u do dis?! ;-;It had to be done at some point. They aren't gonna keep investing in a dead platform. People need to understand that, EA does this as well (shutting down online services for games), many other companies too.

Unsure whether the 8.0 and 7.8 store (still working) would work after this date. Do Microsoft know about this?

Didn't people say there's no apps in Windows Phone which is why Android and iOS dominated them? Why is the store still open without said apps? Hmmm? Was that a joke?

OfferZ, 16 Oct 2019That's a bad move, incase anyone still uses 8.1 as a OS peo... moreBecause maintaining the service is absolutely free so they must keep on doing it forever. And how dare they stopped their Java App Store while many are still using their brick phones, uhhh such a greedy company right?

Using the Lumia 925 right now for a short while. Pretty sure 8.0 and 7.8 will stop working. Finally got a date for the end of the store. WP lived its life, its finished now. XAP files can be deployed though. Got the 925 for £26.95 on the 2nd of October this year. Will replace it with a Nokia 8110 before the end of the year.

Flash the phone and install ubundu.

This is hardly a surprise since there is Windows 10 Mobile (W10M) now. Luckily Windows 10 Store is still running despite the fact that Microsoft will no longer officially support W10M after the end of this year, so that shouldn't be a problem at all.

So sad that 2 GB RAM Lumia 1020 can't update to Windows 10 mobile.

Microsoft destroy every company. If some Asian companies release os for smartphones, very soon will release for computers. That will be end of this company.
