Why? My 2018 phone is getting an update in 2020, and presumably security updates as it does now.

XZs also... moreWhich was the 8.0 so they jumped from 6.0 to 8.0 which is in line with every other android phone on the market even though they skipped a version. Then the XZ1 which is the equivalent of the S8 launched with version 8.0 and went to 9.0 and it's still getting security updates as is the S8. The XZ2 which is a little over a year old is updated every 3 months which is more than enough for patches and security updates and this is from a company from which the mobile division is bleeding money so they invest their own to keep it going. Not everyone appreciates the xperia devices for a reason i don't understand because having a 4k screen on a phone should be the norm and the camera is amazing not to mention the battery life which after a year of use is as good as the first month i got it. They're track record is on par if not better than other mobile companies plus their software is bug free and silky smooth which is more than i can say about other devices.

And again, EMUI version number means different version of Android OS, & his assumption is wrongly made. Even recent EMUI 10 is more to stock android look alike now, if his misinterpretation about Lineage OS, etc.

Emui 8 - Android 8 Oreo
Emui 9 - Android 9 Pie
Emui 10 - Android 10
Nova 3i already has major Android updates from 8 to 9 & pretty sure all Kirin 710 device will be updated to 10. U have to remember its a mid range device, so dont complains when its late. This article only shown Sony flagship device. When you've own Huawei flagship device, 3 major Android update is for sure.

Z and Z1 = android 5.1
Z2/z3 = android 6
z4/z5 = android 7
X Perf/Xz/Xzs = android 8
XZp/XZ1 = android 9
XZ2/xz3 = android 10
XZs was shipped with 7.1. It is the same if they shipped with 6.0 but updated few days later to 7.0 and 7.1. That is why it only got 8.0 ... Same applies to xz1.
Probably the reason 5 has android 9 instead of 10.

XA series was never sold in Japan.
XA2 is not getting android 10, but Xperia 10/10+ are....

Nokia phones with 1GB of RAM get 2 updates
700 dollar Sony phones only get one

Maybe they add some like XA series.
But as far as i know Sony the Sony L series wont get any update probably not a security one as well.
