Pixel 4’s screen scales down to 60Hz when brightness is set below 75%

23 October 2019
The only fix is to force 90Hz from the developer options menu.

A lot of people are skeptical about 90Hz just like increased pixel density back in the days. But once u try it, you'll notice the stutter on 60Hz screen.

Also, the extra expense is being passed onto the consumer, for a feature that will barely be on

So it's always 60Hz except when in a sunny outdoor? Nice.
Well, that's not like if 90Hz was a selling point anyway, there is no content that really give an advantage to high frequencies on smartphone.

[deleted post]I couldn't agree with you more

Anonymous, 24 Oct 2019As usual, more issues and problems for the Pixel. Why ar... moreFunny enough, ONLY the 1st Pixel was bug / issue free!
But then Google had to screw up everythingm

A part of me is happy with this news.
Pixel phones have been "trash" ever since the start, when they killed the Nexus program. The more bad press this gets, the more people will be aware, and the more people are aware then perhaps the more consumer-friendly and/or competitive devices will get sales. Hopefully, this will push Google to fire their managers in the Pixel division and re-hire a better team. And it might push Google to stop copying Apple and start competing against Sony, Samsung, LG, Motorola, Lenovo, and Asus.

If Google wants to be like Apple, here's how you do it:
Release Pixel phones with a slightly more competitive specs at the same high luxury prices.
Launch with the latest AndroidOS (eg Android10).
Support each device with monthly updates, fastest platform updates, and for over 3 years.
Release the source-code openly to github/aosp (eg Android10) after 1 year.
.........This means the AOSP gets released as a stable version, without many bugs, and easier for OEMs to adopt. In fact, prime the AOSP so that OEMs can push the Platform Update on the same day/week, just like an update for Windows. Meanwhile, it gives Google a competitive advantage on why you should get a "Google Phone" because it is analogous to an "Apple Phone", and is unique compared to other "Android Phone" out there.

It's like getting console exclusive games for the Xbox One, ones which cannot be accessed on Windows Store/"Play Anywhere" on your Gaming PC. Well, at least for 1 year, which is good for the platform yet still a competitive advantage.

Pixel series - bugs and issues galore every year.

                          This year, you either
                          1. Go 90hz all the time by forcing it in Developer Options, and watch the tiny battery drain faster than a Bugatti Chiron guzzles gasoline; or
                          2. Let it stay at 60hz almost all the time, except outdoors where it goes to 90Hz, where you the screen stays at maximum brightness (which is not that bright even) and increases the chance of burn-in all the while also draining the battery faster.

If they put in a bigger battery like around 3,300 to 3,500 mAh on the non-XL and 4,000 to 4,500 mAh, then they wouldn't have that big of a problem in the first place.

As usual, more issues and problems for the Pixel.

Why are still surprised that this 4th edition of the Pixel has bugs and problems? Every year it's the same, every edition of the Pixel has bugs and issues which make it not worth the price. The only reason people chose this phone is due to the camera and stock Android.

This sounds like the first go of a software company making a phone, not the 4th, or 6th! Bizarre. All reviewers have been kind to the still shots, but battery and video are way behind, and it was always gonna be bad news.. Also, why no bokeh effects? Just blur? My GF's S10e has some sublime bokeh mods bolt in! A 3300mA in the smaller Pixel and 4000mA in the big, oh and unlimited storage in the cloud or 128GB base storage, and you have a decent device.
