It's funny... Apple is suing samsung arround for this n that but look, when comes to technology, apple has to bow to samsung to make their so called ultra high resolution screen. N now with heating problem. What a shame.. No wonder they have to sell so freaking expensive. Samsung is the best!

I used to work for Bang & Olufsen and its the same as Apple for either company to set up a manufacturing plant to make screens etc would cost millions and millions. For example B&O would go to samsung with the spec and design and quality measures and samsung would make the screen (not sure who they use now) but samsung could not use those tv screen or use the design details it was B&O's design and property. Its the same with most components. Apple like B&O most likely just do the full assembly and last quality checks. It's how the industry works and has worked for years. You'll find it with lots and lots of companies will use the bigger manufacturers for parts but to their spec or design.

I wonder what will guys from Samsung and Apple would say when they read these comments hahah, have you guys ever heard symbiotic mutualism? Apple buys the chip and the screen from Samsung, Samsung makes money and Apple maximize its utility by getting what its designers want and come up with good assembled product, Samsung is happy, apple is happy, people who buy new iPad are happy, and here we are making lots of fuss about how apple got some parts of its new iPad from Samsung? so what? we can't expect one company to come up with everything.

I have a question. If Samsung went out of business tomorrow, would Apple go out of business as well since Samsung makes most of their parts? Probably not correct, they would just find someone else to make their parts. Apple doesn't make any hardware, and I dont think that's ever been in question.

Stupid, 17 Mar 2012For below comments, i would like to correct it. You maybe r... moreyes you are right that the designer was not apple because apple is a company, not a person so it cant design something. but the thing is, apple company have designers which did the complete design so apple owns it. they hire your so called designer but they are hired to work for the design and specs that apple demand and apple approve so it is not the designer's property, it is apples because they paid them for it. if apple dont have the idea that this can be achieved then the designers will not make something like that, like what others are saying that the tech was samsung. that is wrong. because if apple did not told them that this resolution can be made samsung will never made it. if so then galaxy tabs should have it already. so it is not other company's designer in the first place, its just apple's researcher and designer which made the complete design, or just apple.. are we clear again??

For below comments, i would like to correct it. You maybe right for some cases but not all. In some parts supply to "Apple" are design by suppliers Engineers base on given specification sheet or requirement. Apple assembly subcontractors just received the parts and lago to finish product. That is my understanding, at least i'm one of the Engineer who involved in designing and prototype tests to meet the so call given "specification" which...well. The real innovators are not the Companies...the men behind the projects...They are the one who design the parts supply to assembly line to produce the finishing products. However, 'Jobs' creativity power is great!
for all those who do not know, apple design the components, then they give the design to subcontractors to build them. in this case, apple designed the screen and other components, then companies like samsung and others bid for who will build it. even if samsung build it its apple design and so are other components. even if samsung built the screen it doesnt mean that it belongs to them. they were just payed to build the design which apple did. so it doesnt mean that samsung has that screen tech, apple designed the screen and other component tech and ask subcon to mass produce for them. so samsung cannot make the same for galaxy tabs coz they dont own the tech for that, they didnt know it in the first place until apple gave them the design to mass produce it. so its apple's work and not samsung or other subcontractors that made one of the components. are we clear now????

Good for Samsung. Other than supply/manufacture parts for Apple, Samsung also competes with iphone. I think Samsung makes more money than APPLE. So who is smarter APPLE or SAMSUNG?

What I don't get is why everyone is talking about who made the display, Apple never supplies it's displays their except for the thunderbolt display and even then I'm not sure if they did... I know that the surprising part isn't that it's not made by Apple's display but Samsung but we don't what went on to make this decision but what we do know is that neither Apple nor Samsung nor anyone else will tell us because I'm sure thousands of deals like this that is not illegal and not a big deal have happened and only a few have the people got this much information...
to be honest, when I was reading this article originally I didn't care that Samsung made it... I was just happy that it got a gig of RAM and sad that the clock speed of the processor was the same (not more then happy about the RAM)... I was interested in comments despite the topic because it was interesting but now you guys are repeating what others have said on the topic and it's getting annoying... so now before commenting make sure it's a new valid point not something that someone else has said.
