Anonymous, 19 Mar 2012Fragmenting?? ?gh not as virus, malware and virus infect... moreLOL way to miss the point. I'm talking about brand fragmentation not technical fragmentation. WP7 has managed technical fragmentation and stability very well: while other OSes have had major privacy concerns and security issues, WP7 has had a single SMS bug which was squashed quick-smart.

What I'm talking about is Nokia failing to define its brand.

What does it mean to have an Apple phone? It means you have an iPhone. What does it mean to have a Samsung Galaxy phone (of whatever type)? It means you have, at the very least, a decent Android smartphone. This is the kind of "defragmentation" that I think Nokia could really use.

What does it mean to have a Nokia phone? It could mean anything, which is to say it means nothing! Is it a smartphone? Maybe. Is it durable and capable? Maybe. Does it have a good camera and battery life? Maybe. If they stuck to the unibody polycarbonate Lumias (plus the 610 for punters) and S40 "Asha" handsets, having a Nokia will mean either (1) a tough, long-lived featurephone (2) a gorgeous, high quality Windows phone or (3) a cute "my first smartphone" Windows phone.

It just looks like they're doing the same thing they did before, and expecting a different result. But I'm no marketing professional, what do I know?

kurotsuki, 19 Mar 2012And where are the place for my kind who want a cheap & ... moreWhat if you want the full iOS experience but don't want to pay top dollar? Too bad, you have to get the new iPhone - and people are happy to do it!

Sure you could have the three devices be 900, 710 and 610. But Apple has shown you don't need to cover every niche to be successful. The reason I'd say 900, 800 and 610 is that with WP7 and their best Lumia designs, I feel that Nokia has desirable handsets which are on par with iPhone for looks and functionality. The 610 is there for long-time Nokia S40 users who want to try the smartphone idea without committing a lot of cash.

Anonymous, 19 Mar 2012Fragmenting?? ?gh not as virus, malware and virus infect... moreIf you mean "fragments" by how many difference devices there are then yes, Android is "fragmented" however that does not really affect developement of apps; where as, with WP7 and Mango and Tango there are issues with apps not working on Tango devices, this is from Microsoft themselves. Also, only up till 2011, Symbian was the most widely attacked OS. During mid 2011 was when Android overtook Symbian as the most targeted OS.

Lumia 719 looks similar to 710 if iam not wrong. Atleast there should
be some noticeable physical difference between every model.
The keys here (back, windows, ) should be made capacitive.
This window operating systm will emerge out as tough competitor against
existing OS if nokia keeps on launching such products .
Marketing also plays very significant role in making the phone + OS popular.
In few years nokia windows ph will be a hit and nokia will definitely be number 1 or 2.
Nokia has to manage their main OS's symbian , windows , meego carefully.

Nokia is doing good to push the Windows Phone 7 platform on its world class hardware. But there seems a problem with Nokia. It is still selling Symbian phones below 10K range in India and above 10K it is now flooding market with Windows Phones.

The creation of a 3rd ecosystem funda of Nokia is somewhat not clear. Nokia is pushing Qt, Windows Phone platform and also improving Symbian 40 series platform. Its like Nokia want an OS of its own and for that its trying its luck with Maemo. Its all confusing.

I am not a fan of this design, the mid to lower end nokia are pretty ugly where as the 800 is so sexy, why?I also dont like the windows button, it makes them look cheap. I think microsort should create a new logo for windows phone.

*sigh* I sure hope Nokia knows what the hell it's doing. They're falling into their old habit: release a dozen handsets for every possible niche, thus fragmenting the overall idea of what a "Nokia" phone is.

IMHO they should just stick with the 900, 800 and 610 and THAT'S IT. That way having a Nokia Phone will mean you've either got the best or second-best Windows phone out there; or you want Windows Phone on the cheap. Easy, consistent and eminently understandable for the consumer.

urrrghh.... Nokia why do you do this??
