Weekly poll results: when it comes to zoom, more is better

High-res image sensors are making 2x optical zoom obsolete. Things start getting interesting at 3x, but even higher magnification is preferred.

Nobody wants 5x digital,hybrid zoom we all want 5x optical zoom

    wow! What a discovery!
    When people where asked if they want more zoom... they said yes!

    I bet next poll will be:
    "do you want more battery life on your device?"

      2x zoom is practically useless.
      3x zoom is starter level zoom, somewhat useful.
      5x zoom is where you start to enjoy zooming. Being able to take some impressive shots that you just couldn't do without it.

      IMO 5x/10x optical zoom is truly the ideal zoom for smartphones. Anything less can be achieved with hybrid zoom in acceptable quality.

        While Xiaomi may be the first to launch a phone with a 108MP camera (and 5x zoom), early rumors are that Samsung is preparing a similar setup for the Galaxy S11. You can bet other brands have similar plans for next year as well – we’ve had it really good until now, but 2020 is shaping up to be the best year for smartphone photography.

        Well in present era where prices grows much faster than salary Xiaomi becomes more and more popular than Samsung.
        Samsung can add a 108 Mpix unit to a S11 lineup but as long as xiaomi device for 1/4 price will do the same job Xiaomi is winner.

        Samsung still did not understand the one simple thing. In present era brand name have no value. All that people wants is the best possible option for lowest possible price and a brand new.

        Having used S10 or S9, S8 or note series by Samsung for half the price or 1/4 of its price is still less preferable by ppeople nowdays than having a brand new cellhpone with awesome specs for a price under 300 or under 200.

        Anyway most peple change their phones every 2-3years or less and having a flagship for 1000 or 1500 buucks have no sense if in next 2 years gets old and out of new fashion and trends. When this time comes most people are willing to sell their phone for the best possible price to buy something new with fashion.

        But as i mentoided above most people wants new thing not used one where noone have the clue how the previous owner used and cared about their phone.

          One reason why people have voted for 5x zoom instead of a 2x or 3x is that they are all assuming that 5x optical zoom would also encompass a 2x/3x optical zoom. The moment it is clear that 5x optical zoom would not allow 2x/3x optical zoom (instead it would be digital), they would re-consider the voting.
