Update enables 90Hz on the Pixel 4 at lower brightness levels but there's a catch

05 November 2019
The smaller Pixel is still capped at 42% brightness, though.

Mediateksux, 05 Nov 2019:D ah yes all thousands are working on the pixel phones :DActually yes. To create and release phone you need lots of people, and I dont include workers in factories. There lots of people that design not only look of device but all those small parts of device, starting from placement of screws ending in software development testers.
And then you have people that work in PR. Literally hundred of people that design adverts, boxes, modelers that do 3D videos and all those people that spend time advertising it and talk about it.
And then you have bunch of people that get paid to test phone. But they are not alone, workers them self often use those devices. So you have hundred of people that could test this device in real life scenarios.

Dolanescu, 08 Nov 2019I compare the overall package... if a phone is bad because ... moreYou don't get my point do you. What I'm saying is, if you need to compare Pixel to a phone that cannot be recommended to anyone but those living in China to show that it's a good product, then Pixel is not. You don't say that car A is a good car because it can run faster than a bicycle, you need to compare it to other cars. Hence you need to compare Pixel to other phones that have working Google Services on them.

"like apple users don't care about specs"
Apple's software and hardware are top-notch - its RAM management is better than any Android phones, and as for the display it's easily one of the best in the market right now, with excellent color accuracy, wide color gamut support, outstanding peak brightness, 120Hz touch sampling rate, no black crushing etc... Pixel's display? It's 90Hz but only available at higher brightness, forced 90Hz mode introduces the color calibration at lower brightness, very low peak brightness... and of course it keeps less apps in the background despite having 2GB of extra RAM compared to iPhone.

If I wanted to enjoy the simplicity and "it just works" experience, I would buy iPhone, not a carbon copy of iPhone that does everything worse than the original. Some Chinese brands do copy some of iPhone's features but at least they usually have other features that stand out from the crowd and make them competitive in the market. Pixel does not come with anything like that.

You said it yourself lol. Now compare something of the same price, like the redmi note 8 pro with galaxy m30s, a50 etc. The only thing the galaxies have are the oled displays, and larger batteries, while hugely inferior in everything else.

Im sure these are some features your Mi 9 "have" on board:

                  No OIS
                  no IP rating
                  no stereo speakers
A midranger 1080p 400ppi display unlike the 1440p 550ppi samsung uses on its flagships
                  4K front camera video recording
an A50 like 64/6 base storage configuration
                  No reverse wireless charging
                  No alternative to Bixby Routines

Yeah xiaomi really doesnt have "half the features"
Xiaomi isnt a godsent company selling smartphones at cheap price for "the approvance of god" or something there are reasons they sell cheaper. I mean, yeah, Samsung is greedy but even if they werent overpricing their prices still would be higher thanks to the features that mi 9 lacks.

(It doesnt matter if you think "those are gimmicks" because they are there and they cost more.)

BTW, the Nexus 6P was a very good phone (brilliant camera, great specs, and good battery-life for it's time) with 2 issues that ruined it's reputation. 1 was the boot-loop issues, which were somehow caused by the SoC (there was a work-around to this by running the phone on 4 cores instead of all 8). 2 was the battery failure issues which started happening after a year of release (simply installing a new battery fixed this issue). I know both of them are significant issues, but it was a first time joint attempt by Google & Huawei.

Copying features from other companies are absolutely fine if they are beneficial to users, but the problem with Google is that they tried their best to copy iPhone from every aspect but failed to implement every single one of those features to Pixels well like Apple did to iPhones.

As JerryRigEverything said: "It looks like pixel just copied iPhones homework, didn’t change anything, but still managed to get the answers wrong", and I fully agree with him. This year's Pixels are more pathetic than ever.
