I think first of all google shud only let a few good companies with proven history or promising future on its android os like sammy, moto, sony, htc, huawei. Second, once it releases an android update, it shud set a minimum bar for phone specs dat cud utilise dat update. Third, after update of os it shud b made available to all handsets compatible to it within say 2 months. N i think google shud promote its os update more n only after at least half the android community has it shud google consider launching a new update. Dis cud reduce such fragmentation issues. These r only my thots of course. I believe dat google is riding the android wagon at 'break-neck' speed which really is threatning to break its neck. Hope google cums up wid a reassuring announcement regarding dis issue :-)

Firstly, it doesn't say how many so called 'developers' were surveyed. Secondly, I think those who are complaining about this are a bunch of lazy Azzes. Why? Do you even remember how many version of Windows we have? Are all the PC's in the world running on Windows7? There is PC's with 98,2K, XP, Vista, 7 and 8 and yet, there are softwares that are compatible all these platforms, and these lazy serve me on a platter developers say Android is fragmented? Time for a reality check and the world is a better place without such developers who don't care to be compatible with all platforms. You're asking us to come to a platform where you will give your software, well, the truth is, if you can't provide your sotware on our platform, then we aint buying your software!

Fragmentaion is what ruined it for me with android. I do like the system, and the phones that run the system are out of this world. But at the end of the day fragmentation is slowly killing it for me. in the end i found my way back to ios, before anyone sais a thing, i would like to state that im in no way a apple fan boy. BUT the iphone has been a very good phone for me and i have never had a problem with anything on the phone in the 18 months ive had it (iphone 4). and the only reason that ive loved it this long is.... you guessed it! Little to no fragmentation! But hey, thats just me! :)

I wonder what it will take for Google to set parameters to ensure that manufacturers update devices on time (if at all). Google's cavalier approach to enforcing updates may have spread Android appeal thru manufacturers but it has left end-users feeling increasingly frustrated.

Im an andriod user and all the tablet apps on andriod tablets are just phone ups blown up from its mobile phone version, iOS is paving the way for tablet until Win8 gets ready. There is nothing much google can do about this unless they standardize hardware requirements and put a 60 requirement for vendors to push the latest update to their mobile phones.
Even basic apps such as twitter or yahoo messenger fail so bad on andriod tablets but are a joy to use on the ipad.

Symbian is the most secure os in comparison to any other os even android. Why do people just go saying nonsense???. Because of people like you, symbian os is given a false bad name. Very very bad and baseless comment. hope you do some research before posting your nonsense !!!!
I am currently posting this comment from symbian phone nokia c6 which has never ever caught a virus. i have been using this phone since almost 2 years
So don't post nonsense here!

Deserved them right Google! Not only the developers are boring with those fragmentation, more importantly, users hate outdated OS. Not update my phone right means not buying another one, not anymore.(if Windows Phones have managed to do their things right, so until then...)

If your phone kept getting updated with the latest software then unless the phone itself because unusable you'd never need to buy a new phone. Hardware makers need people to regularly update their phones as well so they can benefit as well as software developers. All mobile phone OS's have a lifespan and that's to keep people buying newer models with newer hardware and software. No OS is immune and its not going to change.

This article is NOT propaganda. It is the TRUTH. There have been various Tech sites releasing articles and stats in regards to Android fragmentation. Majority of the phones are still using either Froyo/Gingerbread and a very few with ICS. Yet, Jellybean will be released around Q4. Blame Google for not taking its reins with phone manufacturer in releasing new OS in a timely manner. There have already been some game developers that have discontinued/bailed out on Android and are sticking with iOS. Their reason is that, they spent more time and money fixing incompatibilities in regards to fragmention on many devices, which that time and money itself could have been spent on releasing new contents. Just pray that it will not be a growing trend. Otherwise, Google Play is screwed.

That's OK, at the end only the good developers will remain, I mean the ones who really can code, the creative ones. The lazy and close-gardened devs can run away, I don’t care.

True, true. Luckily I dumped Handroid about half a year ago and I am really happy without the ever force-closing and restarting OS.
