Scratchability is directly proportional to hardness of the material and hard materials don't fold. What they could do instead in the future is to cover the display with glass and plastic sandwich with plastic taking care of the hinge area. Though seamless integration of these two materials would be easier said than done.

            It was actually the iPhone that killed multiple different form factors we saw in the decade of the Oh Ohs. OEMs decided to go slab for another decade. This is the flip phones' revenge against the slab thanks to foldable displays.

            The best phone announcement since the original iPhone. It won't revolutionize the industry like the og iPhone did. But it will bring back a renaissance of flip phones which might be the safest path for foldable displays moving forward.

            I haven't been this excited for a phone in 12 years. I check on Razr videos on YouTube daily and love looking at it. Again, I wasn't even fan of the original RAZR but I am for its 2020 modern rebirth. I'm feeling real change is happening in the mobile industry that I haven't felt since 2007-2008..

                I think the Snapdragon 710 was needed because it's more battery efficient than the 800 series. And Motorola didn't want to put a huge battery on it to make it even more thicker. It's already 14 mm thick when folded similar to the og RAZR.

                The og Pixel can hold its own after 3 years of release and the 821 is slightly inferior to the 710. This Razr also has the same amount of RAM as the Pixel 4. Logic and any rationale gets thrown out the window when most people who want this is for design.

                It's COMPACT. That's very, very important to alot of people. It's surprisingly heavy at 205 grams though. Galaxy Fold and Mate X are still bulky phones and don't show much polished durability.

                Nostalgic trip from the old RAZR design or any flip phone from a bygone era also helps entices. This Razr and Surface Duo are the two phones to get within the next 13 months. Both so unique in a sea of sameness.

                All three belong next to the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Yota Phones, Samsung Galaxy Fold, Huawei Mate X, and Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha when it comes to uniqueness during the last 10 years.

                Most of the stuff we see annually in tech is the same ol', same ol'. The Blackberry KeyOnes were cool too but they really were no different than 2014's Passport except they had Android.

                    Small battery, fat chin, average camera, low ram, old doc ... except for the foldable screen and smaller size, there's nothing there worthy of $1500. Comic relief.

                          Reason glass cannot bend is it wasnt reated the way or technology to make a bendable glass.
                          Or any other nonscratchable material which will be as much durable as normal glass or shapphire glass and will work the same way. And will be able to bend.

                            That I or you don't need something does NOT equal (or imply) "no one needs".

                            That I personally do not need a narcissistic camera on my phone, does NOT mean that this goes for everyone...

                            Different people, different usage patterns, different needs and wishes - no more complicated than that.

                            It is the same the other way around. I have a strong urge for a keyboard slider (see fxtec.com/pro1 ) But I do not expect it be something that will be interesting to the majority of phablets users out there.

                            VARIETY is the key! Not everyone is satisfied with the same huge slabs as the only option.

                              Spring loaded is sleek in theory but means two things in real usage
                              1) You might accidentally activate it taking it from the pocket, and this would come with a high risk of it popping out of your hand, and thus dropping it.

                              2) When you would try to answer a call at night you would have to fumble for the button, or have to find a light switch, and possibly glasses first.

                              But hopefully the spring mechanism that I assume is stretching the screen, has 'dents' so it needs a small amount of force to fold from completely flat. (looking at the patent drawings, there are magnets keeping it closed)

                                This person seems to want it even with its flaws. Reminds me a little bit of the first iPhone. Very flawed, overpriced, and people still wanted it.

                                  Yet, people are still mad at the Razr's price when it happens to have the weakest specs but also have the lowest price and most durable foldable. Foldable for a flip phone makes alot more sense. A natural feeling for people who experienced using them in the previous decade.

                                  I owned three flip phones from 2004-2008. My favorite is the Sanyo SCP-5500 on Sprint. The Motorola V600 and Motorola RAZR V3 is about a tie. This new 2020 Razr should surpass them all. For a design that sold 130M, this new Razr is a one-of-a-kind smartphone design. There's no other smartphone really like it. Not even the Galaxy Folder 1 and 2 compares.
