Sisqoboy, 16 Nov 2019Doesn't work with my mi 8 in UK. Anyone got it work in UK? It literally says "US only" so if you live outside of the US you won't be getting it just yet. I think they're just feeling it out. If it becomes a success then they'll release it worldwide

I only use Samsung Messages and RCS support is still very wonky for me. I think this is just the awkward transition period from SMS to RCS. Perhaps a couple of years into the future it'll be standard.

The real question is, how will Apple react to this? Refuse to adapt or implement this in some way to iMessage? That's where things start to get a little confusing.

Anonymous, 16 Nov 2019Same here mine has it, but never see no read status on it. ... moreIf the Universal Profile is properly implemented, then the client is irrelevant. But some carriers like to fiddle with the profile to impose such restrictions. YMMV as they say...

Anonymous, 15 Nov 2019We are also looking forward to hearing this. But currently ... moreI have RCS on the native Samsung Messages app. The carrier must allow it. I know one carrier in the US does, and recently, two of the three major carriers in Canada support it (Bell since a while, and Rogers since July.)

It seems that US carriers are working on RCS UP, but unfortunately with a proprietary app.

What is the point of RCS? Replacing a "paid by piece" service with another?

There is a clear difference between those two. In proprietary os that is not an issue. But monopoly on open source os is an issue. Currently Google has not provided any Android API's to allow third-party apps to handle RCS. This is monopoly as usual from Google. First they comes with open source then add something with proprietary and build a monopoly from proprietary parts.

Google has not provided any Android API's to allow third-party apps to handle RCS. Even on Android 10. But author talks about standardization "Google, who had been making efforts to standardize RCS across Android devices and carriers around the world" Sorry to tell you the truth, this is proprietary monopoly not standardization.
