Its a great device no matter what others thinks.
I can understand other worries but many people are forced to hands off like people of North Korea which do exactly as Kim forces them to do so .

But since Xiaomi is now doing it, Xiaomi fans who WERE specs-hungry have started defending that flagship SOC is not important.

A very small minority cares about chipset.... moreI'd like to say it's more like Alfa Romeo -- half price of the Ferrari, with a light body and provide smooth driving experience which has not a lot difference from Ferrari. But people complain its engine is only V8 but not V12,and compare its horsepower with Ferrari, Lamborghini or other luxury brands.
And the most important thing is that, almost all of the customers of those brands drive the car in the same road with heavy traffic jams and low speed limit.

Trim the fat and at this point in time SoC is the fat. Unless you are a gamer you do not use 30% of it. An SD730g is exactly as fast SD855 for people who do not play hardcore games. So this is a better phone in actuality than one with a SD855...

Anonymous, 17 Nov 201998%?err no more like 70%98% in every day experience. Anything that is not a game does not max SD855. It loses about half of SD855 power which is exactly what SD730 also have.
Top specs are for mobile gamers. A very exclusive group. Most real gamers play on consoles or PCs anyway. This is a phone for everyone, replace a useless feature (gaming on a phone) with a useful one (good spot photography).

Just a simple question, what differences would it be if this phone used SD 855 ?
PS : I agree, price is high.
PS2: I disagree a good phone must use flagship SOC. 730G is enough for %99 of users.

The vast majority doesn't need a super smartphone just like it doesn't need a super computer or anything super.

As for stills you almost cannot compare it with the likes of apple, noisy 12mp vs clear 27mp. Unlike most of smartphones at 12mp its output is more comparable to full size cameras. Just so you know shooting with smartphone and with full size camera is different, though you got more quality and options in full size one, with smartphone being thin and always with you, you are more likely to take a shot when you need. Best camera is the one you got with you.

People want a phone that can do everything.
They don't want to carry 5 phones, each with different strength. They may want a good camera today, a fast phone the next.
And Xiaomi tends to give cheap with high specs.. they broke their own customers mentality, everything have to be good and cheap. Now they use a lower class SoC, thus the big displease.

They aren't buying for what value it truly means for them and there actual usage they want to

Phone it's not perfect,even in camera department,cause not have 4k60fps. If I want camera phone I will get Google pixel model or some Sony Xperia,not this one with Samsung sensor.. It's great camera, procesor can push everything,but not enough for real explorer in camera department.. And let's be clear here. I have mi note 3, and thus is not real successor of my phone.

Anonymous, 17 Nov 2019Chipset too slow to scroll bloated social media sites. /sPlenty of devices with 730g chip, day to day operation is lag free. Most users will notice a difference in speed only when encoding a video or some heavy duty task. Rest of the phone is pretty snappy.

It is a phone which gives 1000$ flagship performance or better as far as camera quality is concerned at 500$ price point. Chipset is plenty powerful for most people. Other power users can stick to other flagships in this price range.
