Weekly poll results: Motorola Razr 2019 gets the design right, needs to work on the specs

24 November 2019
As a first-gen foldable, the price is predictably high but Samsung and Huawei are offering flagship specs on their models and Moto isn't.

anon, 24 Nov 2019Yea that's because the technology didn't exist back then. B... moreThe specs for this phone were locked in 18 months ago with a long testing phase. They didn't want a repeat of the Samsung Fold.

IF im buying this phone, im not buying it for gaming or have a huge interest in photography, i mean if im looking for neither one of those things i wouldn't go for a foldable device, same as the razr V3, it was a design thing, it has been ages since we saw a device that make us look at it and say "thats beautiful" and that was the razr V3, and same thing here, i'd be happy spending $1500 over a $1000 iDevice, thats my opinion

Well if it comes to slovakia i have no problems with buying just because the phone looks awesome.

We geeks are all about the specs... That's why we are amazed by 855+, 865, 12Gb Ram and future numbers... but the reality is that higher or faster is not always better.

What is needed to be understood in this case, is the following:
In the past, Moto Razr phone was never about to be the faster or better flagship. No. It was aimed to be the best looking phone. The most fashionable phone, and also to be able to do the job.

Back in the day I had a nokia that had a better camera, better dislay, more memory, better operating system, the battery lasted longer..., but every body else was buying the razr because of the wow factor it had at the time. And it was not cheap at all.

So, may be moto is trying to do the same. Forget about the over the chart specs, and leave it for us the geeks (less than 5% of the market). They are going to the market with good specifications and a form factor that stand by its own in the actual market.

For the regular user a 730 SoC and 6Gb are more than enough, but a phone easy to carry, still having all the smart features and a good reading area is a great advantage. Not so much people care about multiple cameras or a zillion megapixels...

The worst thing it has is the price. Let us see if the manage to do the same they did in the past, selling a very expensive phone the first two years.

Well, if the new design is anything like an old, original Razr... run for your lives.

The original Razr was the worst phone I ever bought. The hinge broke right after the warranty period expired. I only used the phone to make a phone call every now and then and was not abusing it in any way. Motorola did not want to hear about it, they washed their hands clean despite the obvious product defect.

Never bought a Motorola phone again.

If Samsung and Huawei don't have 3.5mm jacks then they are no better.

Come on people, be realistic! It’s the first ever flexible display phone done right, just as the iPhone 2G was the first smart phone done right. Did you expect a 20mp camera in iPhone 1? If Moto had upped the spec, it would have got too hot (possibly effecting the display), shortened battery life, increased device thickness if a larger battery was required - and price! RAZR is a social phone, not a power user phone. I’m sold.

The the good news for Motorola is that there are very few skeptics – only 6% still maintain that foldable phones are not the way forward.

6% want huge screen when unfolded.
                        17% are against foldable concept.

Maybe Motorola can launch a Pro version with flagship-tier CPU and possibly a much bigger battery. The design is alright, I definitely like it. That Xperia 1/5-esque 21:9 screen when unfolded definitely have won me, and I love the fact that it doesn't look like a smartphone when folded down.

Improve and mass produce the hinge and the flexible OLED so the next Razr smartphone will become as cheap as Apple's best base offering. I hope the Razr 2 will cost $1100 - 1200 and the specs will be SD865 and 3500mah battery with something like Sony's Qnovo to make it endure at least 85 hours average. Oh yeah, the front display could be a little bit bigger too plus the camera can be a single IMX586/IMX686 with a ToF sensor on it.

I just hope this phone sells enough for Motorola to make a RAZR 2. With flagship specs, and a decent sized battery, this phone will sell like hot cakes.
