I still have almost a year on contract and stuck with SGS and TouchWiz bloatware.

There are already many applications that do not work properly with TouchWiz and with no ICS upgrade it will only get worse.

If anyone manufacturer wants to differentiate themselves, why not have pure Android and quick updates.

Google is also to blame. Android is not open and why do not they have official device profile like MS has with windows.

I hope Sony ups its game and brings the customer support to Android or Asus increases its presence. Otherwise it is time to quit the Android jungle.

I am running CM9 ICS on my HTC Desire (Bravo) and it has a very small partition and yet I am able to install other apps. It's manufacture skins and money are the factors that hinders the older phone's updates.

Android fragmentation gets worse and worse year by year.

GSMArena, there's a reason that the Nexus S can run ICS, but SGS cannot. The reason for SGS and other single core devices of Samsung not getting ICS is because the size of the system partition on single core Galaxy devices is too small, which is a problem for accommodating both TouchWiz components and ICS. It's only around 250 MB, while other manufacturers keep it above 300 MB. Hence no ICS for Galaxy S, or even for the original Nexus One for that matter. ICS can run fine on 1GHz and 512 MB phones. Sony keeps system partition at around 420 MB, hence they have promised ICS for all 2011 Xperia phones. Small system partition size is the problem.

C... morenone yet. but even the most humble xperia mini with just around 500mb ram will be getting official ICS this late april and even the not-so-trendy-almost-a-failure-in-sales sony tablets will be getting it too. to me it seems like sony cares more about costumers than their actual sales. all the 2011 xperia phones will be getting ICS from sony mobile. do you know how expensive that is to make an effort to update all devices when sony gets no money but only risky loyalty of consumers?

I 've couple of custom Roms for ICS, they are much better. they arent for bragging about the new o/s, but do have enough functionality. they are stable and almost bug free.

Which ICS Rom have you used and what problems have you faced? i reckon you have followed the exact installation steps said the by the ROM Dev?
