Huawei Watch GT 2 review

We wanted to call it hands-on, but it is more like a wrist-on.

Did you finally figure what the bezel is for? I am also searching for it.

    I have huawei watch gt2 and the first thing I like most is battery, it lasts approximately 14 days. You can recive call and talk with it, get other notification. Watch is waterproof so you can swim with it. I really like the design of watch.

      The watch really does what it's supposed to be. I agree there are certain downfalls but it comes with a good trade-off implementing the Firstbeat technology of 8 features that's about in the Garmin league. Garmin has an upper hand with their sensors and additional features like respiration, body battery and a few more. So the hardcore fitness freaks, runners mainly should think about it but for a guy like me just want those extra information with my day to day movements and working out 4 to 5 times a week. Not to forget the GT 2 is no less, its power packed with precision with a negligible error interms with the measurements and estimation. Heart rate need a minor fix, it spikes up to +20 bpm from the actual reading and gets it right within 2-4 seconds, especially when you climb stairs, it possibly could be the algorithm function causing it. This is in continous real time tracking which is basically 24/7, I think more the heart rate readings more accurate the calorie estimation would be since I move around a lot throughout the day. That's the trade off i was mentioning from point of view, also the UI stutters its much better and sensible if we could turn off the transition animation or it's to be made better and smoother. Speaker is pretty good for a watch, loud enough in a room. The mic picks up the voice well too, but might have to keep close when you're outdoors. Sensors work amazing, speaking of which I chose this over Versa 2 was this point. Sensors, they're darn good for the price point. If they develop their apps into making even more information for the users out of these sensors, it will be their selling point. They give accurate reading during the workout, even while swimming is what its claimed, so naturally sweating shouldnt be a problem tracking the heart rate during HIIT, steps are almost accurate, 'almost', in the world of fitness tracking is a careful term to use. I've noticed it always counted 2 -4 steps extra after a walk, be it a long/fast walk or a short walk or even moving the slightest distance. Which is very much okay compared to Versa 2. The calorie estimation is based on your Heart rate and movements throughout the day. It's not based of BMR(look it up if unaware). Design is NEAT. It fits very well, quality is needless to mention its Huawei. In terms of a smartwatch it's not there fully yet, I mean it can have some improvements just put in a calendar, or something essentials like that. So. Theyve put in some nice hardware into this thing, itll be really nice to see what they can come up with their App and firmware.
      Finally, it just has about everything it need in a fitness tracker /smartwatch/fitnesswatch? It'd give it an 8 on 10.

            I can't get the app configured on the iPhone Xr.

            It works good on the iPhone 8 though...
            But I'm not receiving a login screen on the Xr, nor can I update the device list when I want to pair the watch on the Xr.
            Any pointers to help?

                      Hello,

                      I am using iPhone. Can i configure Huawei GT 2 with my iPhone? Can i get all 3rd Party Messaging apps notification in Huawei GT 2? Can i read WhatsApp, Viber, Messenger, Text Message from Huawei GT 2? Can i receive the call and disconnect the calls from Huawei GT 2? My main concern is for view the 3rd party notifications.

                      Can GT 2 show all 3rd Party apps Notifications?

                          I purchased the GT2 Classic 46mm duty free in Singapore. After 5 weeks the watched became defective, heart rate is defective (registers 150 bPM when you are sitting, and 88 when you are running your guts out), step counter comes in and out, activity status wrong (says you were active for 12 of 12 hours when sleeping half the day and going to cinema), barometer and altitude are purely gimmick. Huawei wont honour the warranty unless I fly to Singapore, even though it is 5 weeks old. They did offer to fix it for a fee here in Australia. Do not buy.

                            This is about the 42 MM GT2. I purchased this after reading a lot of positive comments on - though there are very few resources for the 42 mm version. Here are few things that may help would be purchasers for 42 MM:

                            For:
                            1. Outstanding design
                            2. Decent battery life with USB C charger
                            3. Very light - comfortable to wear

                            Against:
                            1. Very limited watch faces - none of the 46 mm faces are available for the 42. So ensure you are happy with what you are getting (about 5 - 7 faces)
                            2. Faces are very cluttered in design - its seems someone has designed it without consideration for the dial size. Its very difficult to read the digits of HR, steps etc You will need to press a button to go to the exercise panel to reveal these in larger digits
                            3. Grossly inaccurate: I read somewhere that Huawei counts the steps from arms movement. For this or otherwise, it counted over 250 steps when I drove about 2 kms. This wont happen in a fitbit.
                            4. The steps count is a composite of steps and phone. So if you have them together, I am not sure what they count. I tried many ways to a) leave the phone behind b) leave the watch behind c) carry both together (and in each case compatred the steps against a calibrated fitbit blaze). I could not make out how Huwaei is merging the data from phone or watch. The watch updates its steps from the phone and displays total.
                            5. The app is a bit too clunky. If you are used to samung or fitbit you may not like it.

                            Hope this is helpful. Its a pity because I fell in love with the watch for its sheer design.

                              After using the watch for more then a month, I would say there is lot of drawbacks compared to samsung. Steps count not good at all compared to samsung, even while driving it will count the steps. The temperature shown does not match with google or even weather app of the phone. World clock, you can only see limited countries(dont know the reason). I would recommend samsung or other watch. It only wins for design and battery life. Hope it helps!

                                I use Samsung and think that the Watch or Active Watch are not for me, I am very interested in this one, but I do not know how Samsung and Huawei would get along. What'd you suggest to me?

                                  I can't ask for more out of this device because it is perfect, it is more than a watch. The rest, my phone will take care, then my laptop will do its stuff and at home my theater can do the rest.

                                    Still waiting and looking. Only God knows why Samsung came this year with 2 models that both are the same and more feminine, instead of upgrading last year nice looking watch.

                                      You know, I'm looking at smartwatches now as in the past I had Moto 360(1st gen) and it was not great. I want some smartwatches, that have some basics for me, that means Bluetooth 5.0, Google Pay and it lasts few days. Results? None... Android wear lasts one day, has max 4.2 Bluetooth support. Samsung watch Active 2 has only Samsung Pay, doesn't support my bank, but BT 5.0 is present. They have smaller watch, which looks pretty good, but the limitations is still there. Then this Huawei watch, which you can't install apps(so no G Pay), but everything else seems pretty fine. And there is Amazfit Stratos 3, it has BT 5.0, but that is all... So yeah, as of now, there is no Smartwatch for me. Really sad if you think of it. Also, the biggest pickle I found with Android wear is all of them run on old processor, but main pickle is that Bluetooth 5.0. I want this Bluetooth for long lasting battery life and use with headphones. Seems I have to wait still. Lets see if there is going to be Pixel watch? Could be nice, but I hope NO SQUARE CHINA - APPLE face(facepalm)!
