I just downloaded the updated, and I'm confused.
1. This is not free, seems to be a 30 day trial.
2. This is not made by TomTom, rather it's from Route66.
So I guess the Nokia Drive app for WP still wins

Not sure if Nokia built that functionality into their Lumia phones.

HTC for ever, 30 Mar 2012Map alone without GPS is nothing, because your phone doesn't... moreof course.Just switch internet in your phone off and all your maps are dead, because the device alone ,separate from GPS ,doesn't know where it (and you ) is .
These are 2 different things:load the maps (you can do it in many different ways) and make use of them;here the phone must have connection to internet (and via internet to GPS system) or to GPS.

I have used both purchased and online maps on phones since 2006. I can firmly say that buying maps is more expensive that using a data connection and free online maps.
In fact the cost of using online maps is so low I wouldn't even consider the cost a big disadvantage over downloading free maps.

Nokia gives maps for free but to use... moreI don't think you understand how the maps work, you choose what maps you want (UK, US, Europe, etc) then download them to your phone, once you have them the Lumia does not need an internet connection. Just because a phone has GPS does not mean it has built in maps, with HTC phones it will be the same, you can save the maps to the phone and there do not need to stream from the internet.

anyway, its a step in a good direction but tomtom has awful coverage. though nokia maps had lousy coverage when it started, but tomtom has been around for years and hasnt improoved much. also dont forget nokia has much bigger user base. its even more detailed that google maps.
about gsmarena being biased, i wouldnt say that. maybe some writers are, but not all.
