Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 gets detailed: 25% faster CPU, 20% faster graphics inside

04 December 2019
Expect to see it in all flagship Android devices that aren't made by Samsung and Huawei.

chuck, 07 Dec 2019marketing gimmick the 20% better performance in comparison ... moreAgain. Realistic expectations are needed here. Not every time can be groundbreaking. And they are chasing efficiency and longevity. Not just higher benchmarks. As well as many other aspects besides just CPU and gpu. And the single core cpu uplift is still very nice.

Imagine if imagination xt 1024 (with 1tflops fp32 10 gigapixel ) still crushes all A13 or adreno 650 at least on paper but one more Imagination xt 2048(with 2tflops fp32 20 gigapixel) are the monster of mobile gpu.
Please any chipmaker use this gpu please.

What a disappointed percentage increase in gpu since after sd820.
Only 20-25% increase in gpu performance on a yearly basis this is nothing as we compare to sd 855 plus, so if you have sd855 or plus veriant flagship then you should wait another year with 5nm process that is superior then this, also they stretching adreno 600 series to almost 3 year 630,640,650 so no 730.also only good things includes LPDDR5, 200mp(but we care about quality not quantity), 15tops ai performance.
And most important maybe hands on product may change our mind but who cares.

Honestly the team that develops the low power cores is quite slow. ARM should do something about it. Keeping a core design for more than 2 years is too much.

Love the Community, 05 Dec 2019Yeah. Qualcomm needs to stop using that outdated A55 cores ... more

Qualcomm can't do much because ARM hasn't made an A56 yet. Arm did make an A57 back in 2014, so they can't exactly use the name again. But don't expect ARM to use anything more than an A55 for the next 5 years. The DynamIQ arch will stick to A55s for the time being, while getting more better powerful cores like A78, A79, A80 in the next 2 to 3 years.

The DynamIQ arch can't exactly use old processors below the A75, like the A73, as seen on the Snapdragon 835, so no hope there. The sad thing about mobile phones is, you've to use what they give you.

I wish they would use 2x A77 and 2x A75 cores, with the A75 cores clocked at 1.2GHz for efficiency on the 7nm/5nm process, but my wishes won't exactly come true.

In this DynamIQ arch, you can make any core at any frequency, and use any configuration in one stack. in the big.LITTLE, the big cores had one stack, and the LITTLE cores had another. That's why you couldn't have more than 4 processors in the big or LITTLE stacks.

Stuart98, 05 Dec 2019It's already weaker than the A13 bionic. Apple is going to ... moreWhat good is a processor if it gets bottlenecked by sub par hardware that Apple provides?

Bottlenecked by less RAM (in multitasking), bottlenecked by lower screen refresh rate (in gaming) and most importantly bottlenecked by the OS which fails to deliver features like split screen multitasking & 960fps super slow motion recording even if the chipset is capable of it.

This is why A13 Bionic is useless. Now if it was running on Android, it's real power could be harnessed.

Excel, 05 Dec 2019Went from chip 835 to 855 and the speed increase was minima... moreIn daily usage no it's not much faster. But in things what stress the CPU or gpu more you would notice a difference across the board. They would work better on the 855. Not only better and quicker, but also with much less throttle. And without your battery dying as fast. And better audio.
Not only have they been making them more powerful they've been making them run better for longer while using less power.
And improving things for the camera, audio, ai, and networks a as well.

But it's actually a lot faster if you use emulator such as citra. It like night and day. On sd835 it run like slow motion video, but it playable good on sd855. I would say performance is more than %50.
