That's what called as "skimming price model" in business, Samsung has captured it to the core.

Annas, 13 Dec 2019Means people want to show off with prone to fail device...t... moreWow, that's some deep analysis, not!
I am 46, I am typing this in my Fold ,which I find an extremely useful device. As part of my job, I travel a lot and this is a fantastic device to work on the go, read my books on, watch movies and listen to music while on the airplane (with the Galaxy buds that were included in the box), take great pictures when I am walking around to blow off steam after work in a foreign city etc. And I get 2 full days of battery with this type of use, without taking much space in my pocket/backpack/luggage - you pick! The Fold has replaced not only my previous phone but also my kindle and tablet. Hell, I now use my laptop only when I have to use SAP!
I can appreciate that this is a niche and very expensive device, but to claim that this is bought only by 20 year-olds who just want to show off, is just thoughtless (to put it mildly!)

Then again, all my money goes to other.. pleasures of life.
But, normal people with normal jobs don't want to spend 200€ each month on new devices. This I am certain with.

define sold..under contract with 0 upfront? under discount/offers/coupons/competitions/gifts/promotions?
all actually paid 2k to get it? there is a difference paying all upfront and just pay 50/m for your contract which you already had and you are just eligible to get new phone

Annas, 13 Dec 2019Means people want to show off with prone to fail device...t... moreYou're thinking negatively. If you buy Galaxy Fold on contract, its as affordable as buying a low-end phone every month so it doesn't seem all that expensive. Also, not all buyers have the same intention of being boastful. Some just wanna feel what its like to use a foldable tablet as their daily driver.
How do you know this device is prone to fail? Its only been released a couple of months now. There's also warranty to cover certain legitimate errors.

Wow, didn't expect there would be a million Galaxy Fold units. I thought there would've been 1/10 of that. Goes to show people are willing to buy innovative phones at the expense of cost.
