18 December 2019
The technology was first introduced almost a couple of years ago and Samsung could be going all in with a new kind of display technology.

From the beginning they could have used blue microLEDs and than use Quantum Dot Color Conversion tech from nanosys, that way it will be be easier to make and have a better yield vs having red, green, and blue LEDs.

I was simply pointing that out in response to the other guys claim that Sony had already created it and Samsung's was boring. Both are evidently going to be amazing, with the Sony being better in quality and the Samsung being better in options (since it'll come out earlier.)

[deleted post]Don't know where you live, or if you just don't go to shop anymore and just do your life on the internet, because Sony is present everywhere on the TV, camera and game console in any supermarket and specialized shop where most people will buy this kind of product in my country.
Plus you don't need to be number one to exist. It would be really bad for the consumer if there was only one manufacturer.

[deleted post]rather have a Panasonic or Sony OLED over an LG, Samsung haven't sold OLEDs for years so anything sells better than them.

Hildr, 19 Dec 2019Well, aside from the sterile discussion about who dit it fi... moreThere are multiple technologies called "oled" now. Micro-led is probably more expensive, Samsung led not as small (but there are other companies). They can do a lot brighter. They probably have a wider color gamut range than the existing LG OLED. However, they want to coat them with Quantum dots to get better color gamut, and on OLED to. I can't tell you much more. Because they modularise led they can go bigger. I don't know why they don't modularise OLED, it would be better to fit together, and even a Dolby Digital theatre HDR screen is something like 500 nits, as that many nits on such a big screen, is a lot of light.

might The principle is exactly the same, just one is organic when the other on is made from silicium. So, I would assume the main advantage of micro led is the cost? But harder to miniaturize so small panels with high resolution hard to obtain?

Nothing further from the truth, first of all Sony showed smaller prototypes years ago, secondly Samsung's solution doesn't qualify, as its diodes are too large, they're millimeter scale not micrometer scale. Sony's is micrometer scale but seems to be less efficient.
