Android 11 could finally let you record videos over 4G in size

26 December 2019
The limitation has been there since 2014, when the first phones supporting 4K recording were launched.

Only Samsung and LG also offer 4K HDR.

Rest is stuck in ancient 8bit recording, including apple

Anonymous, 27 Dec 2019Sony can't even shoot 60FPS @ 4k. Don't run your mouth w... moreWell, at least they give you the option 4K HDR video recording to lessen the sting if not all. 4K HDR video recording is a niche as well, AFAIK because most OEMs don't bother to activate this option, though it was enabled since S845 and up. Sure, 4K HDR is harder to produce than 4K@60, and hopefully, starting 2020, Sony can give us 4K@60 option to be enabled, but be grateful there's more color on 4K video recording on smartphones, just other than 4K@30 (like 4K HDR, 4K@60, 4K@24 even 4K@120)

Only LG can offer both 4K@60 and 4K HDR video recording simultaneously so far, starting with LG G7 ThinQ. Sony lacks the former, most manufacturers lack the latter, Google Pixel lacks both (well...)

Well, it seems LG who can keep most options now, even they're lacking its need now.

I have xperia from z series.
        It does not have limits.
I have recorded over 30 min (cold days of course).

Most put limits to prevent overheating.
Gladly Samsung is no longer doing this stupid limitation.

Wayne Morellini, 27 Dec 2019Let's get into this. I have been involved with camera deve... moreIf you read the specs of mobile sensors, you will see none of them can do 8K.
          Sony says imx586 (48MP 1/2") can do 4K90 like imx400 (XZ1).
Samsung says the Isocell 108MP can do 6K30.

You forgot the most important. Phones have to deal with heat.
          They are thin and sealed.
Most cant even do 4K30 at 50Mbps , but get super hot already.

Didn't know about it. But anyway I don't record to long videos. If 4GB is the limitation you can record many videos and merge them into one video.

My S10+ is waiting for the Android 10 roll-out, and you guys are talking about Android 11 already? Good job Google and Android, only TWO generation numbers away from iOS 13, finally. As for me, I'm not going to catch up with the pace I'm afraid. And why? My pocket is much thinner than before.
