30 December 2019
The popular messaging platform supports a great deal of old devices, but it will no longer work on Gingerbread or iOS 8.

It's funny how iOS users brag about their 5-6 years of software support but and 8 year old Android version is still being supported.

Most people use Android 6 minimum so no issues. And if you still use Android 4 go buy new phone because your phone is extremely old.

Uuuh the only selling point for whatsapp is it was running on preety much anything... Well 4.0 is still good tough. :D

Heck, some app developer has abandoned Android 4.x OS completely and now putting 5.x Lollipop as the most minimum requirement.

On one hand Google changes version no. every year while upgrading their Android OS and on other hand OEM's never or hardly provide any OS update to their low end and mid range phones.
Most of the people are not even aware about their Android OS version installed on their phone. I have seen many people who are still using the same phone for 4/5 years having Android 5 and 6.

The only problem and also a major one is that they don't have much presense where I live.
I have only very few of my contacts using it.

This is great, now completely drop 32 Bit support and bring 64 only support , this will significantly speed up the app.

Android ICS is about 9 years old OS 😂 I don't think it will affect anyone. Even if there's people using smartphone with ICS, i bet they can't run whatsapp on their smartphone because its slow processor and limited internal memory (WhatsApp is quite memory hog if used intensively).

[deleted post]I live in one, i can confirm to you, i see mostly the lowest being 4.4.2.

Who has a Android phone running a version older than 4.0.3 the lowest i saw currently is 4.4.2.

So in other words, anything from iPhone 1 - iPhone 4 will not support, but iPhone 4S and up will support. That is brilliant and covers every iPhone from 2011 up.
