Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha delayed indefinitely

02 January 2020
It seems the futuristic concept phone is not coming any time soon.

Anonymous, 02 Jan 2020This phone sure as hell look cool. I hate and never really... moreYa, agreed, it would be a classic, much like N90 and nGage was in the 2000's.

But don't you think a wristphone would create a trend? And it would be mighty useful at the same time.
And maybe 3 years later we'd have mostly wristphones on the market?

wasox, 03 Jan 2020This wrap around display is useless in real life, why in h... moreYou seem to misunderstand some of the criticism concerning samsung's edge/infinity displays.

The ergonomics of edge display was horrible. Thankfully it is better now (S10) than when edge first launched. With both S6 and S7 edge you had less than half of the side to grip, and the edge was "sharp". False touch and awful grip was a failed design. Thick cases were pretty much mandatory. Another downside was, and still is, distorted fullscreen content. The last point could also be the case for Mi Mix Alpha, depending on how they set it up for fullscreen video playback.

This design that xiaomi has is completely different, and resembles that of old Nokia Lumia (920 in example) design with very soft, U-shaped edges. Which offers good grip. The point isn't to add screen to the sides, but to use one display rather than two (like Vivo NEX Dual Display, Nubia Z20 etc), to get an all screen phone in the front, but also have the capability to take selfies/video calls.

Edge/infinity display on the other hand serves no real purpose but to artificially jack up the screen to body ratio, whilst making the phone less comfortable to hold without a thick case and a ruined fullscreen video or gaming experience.

Mi Note 10 is for me disqualified for the same reason as Samsung devices. Even though I really like the rest of the phone, apart from the notch as well.

The world has truely high end and luxury products, Hermes bag at USD 15k, sony high resolution audio player nw-wm1z at USD 3300 (previously known as iriver has astell and kern ultima digital audio player at the same price), Mac pro for USD 4500 , obviously there is a demand for these products, if xiaomi wants to market USD 2500 , let them be.

Nubia x, nubia z20 and vivo nex dual display are all better and more practical than this. And at this price, I'd buy myself a mate x 100% of the time

Waterfall and wrap around screens are dead on arrival. No one even talks about these things anymore. No one needs these things. People even complain about the usual curved screens. This is not innovation, just overly doing curved screens. Doesn't make anything better.

This really needed to happen. Something needed for the fate to put Xiaom in its place.

A frigging 2800$ phone, that doesn't even fold??? Jesus!

At that price it had to have the Red Hydrogen Holographic camera tech, with Asus Rog Phone accessory eco system on top, otherwise no-one's really interested in a permanently wrapped around screen, even the blind-numbers driven Chinese consumers wouldn't be fooled by that fancy 'more than 100% screen-to-body ratio.' that's more of a convenient circumventing of an issue. Literally.

This wrap around display is useless in real life, why in hell somebody would want info at the sides? I remenber when all the hater-boys crucified samsung when the first curved displays, and those were not these 180 degrees curves! , now, because xiaomi is announcing them, all scream and celebrate the marvelous tech achievement, typical ccp brands lovers, and everything-else haters

great innovative design, futuristic as well, but I think still needs more improvement as to how to handle this wrap around device.

Even if you don't admire xiaomi previous products, you got to give them credit for being ambitious, probably too ambitious, hence why it was cancelled, presumably, low yield of expensive yet very durable sapphire wraparound glass and how brittle it is, considering they have stated this is a 180 % display, maybe we will receive a revised version with 130% display and the wrap around display will start over among the Chinese manufacturers over the next few years, but expect more of these products with Chinese manufacturers as well as Korean, as well as Taiwanese, maybe Apple will join this race during 2026 onwards, nevertheless, this design and challenging production methods is only reserved for super premium end.

I hate and never really understood art. But products like these make their tech era memorable. The most beautifully designed products with the best technology available at their time . These things become technolgical time capsules. You can probably observe this art in pc enthusiasts desktop motherboard designs, or whatever floats your boat. As much as i hate apple and their moto of good tech is only for rich elites. They have forced the tech industries make their products more artistic and charecterful. In the end these are only tools and goods. But artistic technolgical time capsules none the less.
