Kriegsherr, 15 Jan 20201. Retina display is a marketing gimmick and it has nothing... moreI did not say resolution. I suggest you google for oled under the microscope.

      https://www.google.com.sg/amp/s/bgr.com/2017/11/07/iphone-x-display-microscope-oled-vs-lcd/amp/

You can see that typical lcd arrangement packs closer together then oled display. Your abilty to notice pixels is related to this fact. So therefore you need higher ppi to achieve the same effect on lcd aka pack the pixels closer together.

Not much people think of it this way. Always complain and conclude Apple lcd have bad resolution because with the lack of pixels.. they think it is not sharp. But it is not.

And human eye need to focus hard to notice such things, and your mind after knowing the specs plays a part. Under typical usage people will not notice it.

I've been imploring for a smaller and lighter iPhone. I currently exchanged a XR for a Galaxy S10e that is perfect in size and weight, I will keep it until an IOS phone smaller and lighter arrives.

Oh I forgot, if someone habituate himself with sub 270 ppi, 326ppi would be a big step up but its still poor.

            2. OLED needs more pixels to show the same resolution is a wrong expression. resolution is always fixed. so the array at which the display is manufactured is an issue but a lower resolution for say mere 326ppi LCD cant beat a 438ppi OLED.
there is no shame in acquiring the right information. Hope you know that already.

However, the normal viewing distance from eye to smartphone screen is between 12 inches (30 cm) and 22 inches (55 cm). If you hold your phone closer to your eyes than this, you might need a visit to the optometrist as that is not a healthy viewing distance.

                                    2. OLED display's pixel placement is worse then LCD (ie. you are more likely to see the pixels.. remember Samsung's pentile subpixel?). Thus you need higher pixel count to achieve what you see in a typical LCD. Thus you can see the extra pixels required in the pro models as apposed to the typical XR / 11. And why people still praise the LCD screen, and haters got confused why LCD have lower pixel count.. and conclude that it gonna be bad.

If you can't notice it, you are advised to visit an ophthalmologist. dont just quote some ancient medical guide, try considering practical experience as well. I along with most of my friends could clearly see the 6s plus's display was clearly sharper than 6s/7's display. anyway your theory might be true for say 1000ppi vs 1200 ppi. but we aint dealing with that so lets be realistic and say that 326ppi is way lower.
